Mix and Match courses at DU's meta college
By Ruchi Shrimali
Designer courses are on their way to hit the world of DU students soon. From this July, Delhi University has decided to launch a ‘meta college' on a pilot basis. Undergraduate students from DU, who are keen on tailoring their own courses from any of the colleges affiliated to DU, will have to clear the required entrance exam and top 20 will get a chance to experiment with the concept.
The uniqueness of a meta college lies in the fact that chosen students will be able to handpick courses from one or more colleges and reach beyond disciplines to study what they want. Thus, one can pursue English Literature from Lady Shriram College, a course in economics from St. Stephen's and combine it with a course in pure sciences from Hindu College. The only requirement will be to earn a certain number of credits assigned to the courses during the four-year duration. Know more about meta college
DU is also in the process of developing a ‘meta-university' which will allow students to step beyond institutional boundaries. IIT Delhi, JNU, DU and Jamia Milia Islamia are collaborating on the project and may start with a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health with courses like hospital management, and how to offer information on sanitation and nutrition to public. DU and Jamia are also working towards one-year Masters degree program in Math.
Meta college and meta university will offer a combination of online learning and classroom based teaching. While DU will be the first to introduce the concept, Pune and Tamil Nadu are expected to adopt it soon. Read more
