Mystory@Anurag Gourth: How I made the most of my college years
I was a bright student till standard XII but I could not do well when I faced entrance exam after 12th. I decided to take admission in a private college. I believe that percentage does not matter if you have the ability to do something new. I did not get proper guidance from anyone. Some members of my family suggested me to drop a year but I did not do that. In 2010, I took admission in Pragati College of Engineering and Management, Raipur, Chhattisgarh and focused only on my studies. It was my own decision to take admission in this college and I did not want to waste my chance to prove that I was right.
My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more
Few days after I took admission in college, my father expired. I didn’t know what to do and felt totally lost. One of my maternal uncle helped me to continue my studies. My aim is to become an engineer so I studied hard in my first year and became the topper in my college in 2010.
In first year of my college, the faculty members were good and helpful but in the second year the condition suddenly changed. I was the topper in first year in my college but due to lack of faculty members and proper guidance I got a backlog in my third semester. But I didn't lost hope and resorted to self-study and cleared the back papers. But since then I didn't believe in expecting any support from faculty members in my college. I became the topper in third and fourth year in my branch and my overall percentage was higher than any other student in my batch.
After completing my college in 2014, I got a job in state electricity board as an apprentice trainee but due to circumstances I quit my job and went to Delhi for UPSC ESE exam coaching.
I don't know what is hostel life because I stayed at my own house during my college studies. But when I went to Delhi for UPSC coaching, I lived a whole year in PG accommodation and that was a good experience. If I have a chance to live that life I would want to stay in a hostel.
After that I got back home and presently I am working as a teacher in a primary school only to earn my pocket money but this is not my aim. My aim is to clear IES or get a government job. I believe in myself that I’ll make it as soon as possible.
