Now, NTSE only for STD X
In a recent announcement, Maharashtra State Examination Council (MSEC) has clarified that from this year onwards, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) will only be conducted for Std X students and not for Std VIII students.
The news has brought disappointment to many students and their parents. For several years, the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has been conducting National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for students to identify talented students and nurture their potential.
This exam is tough in nature and is held in two parts- Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Ability Test (SAT). This exam makes one eligible for national scholarship scheme.
The decision has been frustrating for those who already started taking coaching classes to prepare for the exam right after STD VII. Affected parents feel that such decisions should have been announced in the beginning of the academic year i.e. February or latest by March. The council announced about the STD X exam but it did not mention that the exam for STD VIII had been cancelled. This led to confusion, which was clarified later. Read more
