Now TNTET 2012 encounters glitches
The first ever teacher eligibility test (TET) has been a mess with complains and dissatisfaction coming from various test centres about discrepancies and irregularities in the way the exam was conducted.
According to a Times of India report, Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) which was held yesterday (July 12) also faced some glitches hampering the conduct of the test. The test was organized by the Teachers Recruitment Board for approximately 6.5 lakh aspirants in the state. One of the major problems faced by the candidates includes difficulty in finding the exam center due to issuance of wrong hall tickets and ambiguity of exam centers mentioned in the ticket.
Condemning the non-availability of hall tickets on the Teacher's Recruitment Board's website, hundreds of agitated TET candidates in Theni and Dindigul districts, staged a road blockade on the Palani-Dindigul Highway in front of the Office of the Chief Educational Officer, reported the Hindu. While some exam takers felt that the test was not as tough as expected, the paper was a letdown to many candidates as the mathematics section was especially difficult. According to another Hindu report, many felt that they were not given ample time to work out the problems. On the other hand, the test was itself a challenge for visually impaired candidates. For them it was an ordeal as majority of these candidates failed to answer all the questions within the stipulated time even after they were assigned with scribes. (Read full story)
Another minor problem was faced by senior candidates who are not familiar with the optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets. A 40-year-old teacher complained that the question paper was too long and it took a lot of time shading the bubbles for the right answer. (Read more)
However, in some cities, the test went by in a streamlined manner. More than 29, 000 candidates took the exam at 76 centers in Trichy. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board even let go of an EB notification to shutdown power at Srirangam for the whole of Thursday to carry out the routine monthly repair works on account of the TET conducted on that day. Earlier this year, TET qualified candidates in Lucknow, went on to stage a sit-in-protest demanding assurance of an early solution to the TET mess. The exam was conducted for the first time on November 13, 2011 by UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad. (Read more)
