Tough test awaits new CBSE teachers

Any new teacher enlisted for standard I-VIII would now be required to clear the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) or the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the state government as per the new CBSE guidelines.

The amendment was made under law number 53 with immediate effect to implement this across all schools in India.

Surprisingly about 87% teachers failed to clear the first edition of CTET held in 2011. Not only this, but 93% failed in the test held earlier this year. The test has earned the reputation of being a "Killer exam" because of the abysmal passing rate.

The new recruitment rules would leave the teachers with no choice but to clear either CTET or the much easier TET. In view of the fact that CTET is conducted by the CBSE itself, the management of every affiliated school would recruit candidates who comply with the central board's criteria.
