June 2011 shocked students with record cutoffs. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) topped the list with its 100 per cent cut off. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal labelled it 'unfortunate' and convinced the students that the government was on their side. Surprisingly, only one science student in DU merit list had scored 100%. Last year, Kirori Mal College had announced a 97% cut off for B.Com Honours programme, which came down to 95.5% in the second list and 95.25% in final or the third list. SRCC issued no second list for its course. 

Science cutoffs too spiked sharply last year. Hans Raj College had a cut off of 96% for its B.Sc Honours in Physics programme, which came down to 94% in the final list. Hindu College had 96.66% cut-off for the same programme that tumbled just a bit to 95.33% in its final list.

Let’s see how the issue of DU cutoffs has panned out this year:

29th May, 2012 – CBSE’s Class XII board results witnessed a steep rise of about 30% in the number of students who scored 90 per cent and above. 28,000 students fell into this category this year, about 6,300 more than last year. More than 3,000 students scored 95 per cent and above rose, 900 more than last year. This, naturally, indicated a rise in DU cut-offs too. Read more

30th May, 2012 – Kapil Sibal was quick to assure students that they do not need to worry about DU admissions yet and that they would face no problems this year. Read more

5th June, 2012 – The expectation of high DU cutoffs is leading to a panic in students. The first cut-off list will be announced on June 26, while the remaining four cut-off lists will be announced on June 29, July 3, July 6 and July 10 respectively. Read more

11th June, 2012 - The anticipation of high DU cutoffs led to an unprecedented increased in the sale of admission forms for the School of Open Learning (SOL). It is expected that by the end of July, 2 lakh SOL forms will be sold, 50,000 more than last year. Read more

19th June, 2012 – The neck-to-neck competition for admissions to best DU colleges is expected to rise to a new high with the introduction of the grading system. There are more than 1000 centurions in Mathematics alone this year. Hence, it is expected that Economics and Science cut-offs will soar further. Students are looking towards Jamia Millia Islamia, Indraprastha University and correspondence courses from Delhi University as an option too. Read more

21st June, 2012 – St. Stephen’s College released its first cut-off list, displaying an increase of 2 to 12 per cent in different courses. About 22,000 students had applied for 420 seats in the college. Chemistry Honours cutoffs in all the seven categories in Science jumped up by 3% while Philosophy Honours cutoffs for all the seven categories in Science showed a remarkable increase of 7%. For the Physical Handicapped (PH) category, the cut offs for Philosophy Honours increases as much as by 12%. The highest cut off in the college was 98% for commerce students who wanted to pursue BA English (Honours), which was followed for 97.75% cutoffs for Economics (Honours).  Read more

26th June, 2012 - Students were spared the horror of 100% in the first cut off list of SRCC this year. The cutoff for its B.Com (H) course is 96.5% to 98.5%. For the OBC category, the cutoffs are in the range of 93% to 95%. BA (H) Economics programme at SRCC carries the cutoff of 96.5% to 97.75% in the fitse list. There are 252 seats for undergraduate programmes in the college, which has a reputation of seats filling up quickly with no need to release a second list. Read more

In some off-campus colleges, cut-offs have risen up by as much as 10% - 11% in courses like BA (Honours) in History as in Ramjas College, Gargi College, and Maitreyi College. At Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), At LSR, the cutoff for BCom (Honours) remains unchanged at 97% this year. Cutoff for B.Com (Honours) at Sri Venkateswara College is only marginally higher than last year at a range of 97% to 98%. Kirori Mal College (KMC) has a cutoff of 96.75% for B.Com (Honours). 29th June, 2012 - Delhi University's second cut-off list is out. There is only a marginal dip in the cut-off percentages for B.Com Hons course, which has emerged as ‘most popular’ among students this year too. Specialized BA programmes have shown a maximum drop of up to 10% in some colleges. Read more

2nd July, 2012 - DU's third cut-off list saw a negligible drop in required scores. The action has shifted to off campus colleges. B.Com (hons) course is still available at around 23 colleges, Economics (hons) at 11 colleges and English (hons) course is still open at as many as 16 colleges. 10th July, 2012 - The fifth and final list of DU cutoffs is out. Admissions in 13 DU colleges are closed. There are a few seats in the BA programme at Aditi Mahavidyalaya. Most colleges like Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Dyal Singh, and Moti Lal Nehru offer a relaxation of 2% to 5% in cut-offs for girls. Seats may become available to the waitlisted candidates against cancellations in some colleges though. Read more
 

16th July, 2012 - DU's seventh cut-off list is out. Several colleges are still offering admission to OBC category students in few subjects. Reserved category seats are still vacant in a number of DU colleges, especially because of its face-to-face admission policy for such students. General category students can also get admission in B.Com, B.Com (Hons), and English (Hons) in few colleges like Ramjas and Daulat Ram.

For admission to B.Com (H), the cutoff in DU's seventh list is highest at Hindu College at 90.5 to 93.5 per cent, followed by Ramjas with 87.5 to 89.5 per cent, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce with 83.75 to 86.5 per cent, and Matreyi with 75 per cent.

Twenty-two colleges are offering Economics (Hons) to OBC applicants. Twelve colleges still have seats to offer in English (Hons) depending on the CATE results. Physics (Hons) admission is open in only two colleges for OBC students, while three colleges, including Hindu and Ramjas, have seats for Chemistry (Hons). About 17 colleges are offering History (Hons) seats for OBC students. Read more
