UK loosens visa norms, scholarships galore

On his three-day visit to India, David Cameron the prime minister of UK announced that there would be no cap on the number of Indians who would be allowed to study in UK universities. He also added that students can stay on in graduate-level jobs after they have qualified for one.

The University of Warwick has enhanced the range of scholarships on offer to Indian students for taught Masters degree. The Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick Professor Nigel Thrift made the announcement.

The University of Warwick, which has deep ties with India through its student population and its research collaborations, announced the scholarships across a range of departments. These include Law, Politics and International Studies and WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group), which works closely with industry partners such as Tata and Jaguar Land Rover.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) also announced 50 new scholarships for postgraduate Indian students as part of Britain’s efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in education and research.

The LSE India Scholarships and a major collaborative research programme on gender equality in the country were also announced during the visit. The awards will range from £3,000 to £32,000, depending on financial need and are open to all Indian students who hold an offer of a place on an LSE Master’s programme by April 30, 2013
