B.Ed admissions at TNOU start in January and generally go on till March. Candidates applying for admission should note that the TNOU admission process starts with the filling out of the application form. Q:   Who is eligible for B.Ed in Tamil Nadu Open University?

A: 

Tamil Nadu Open University offers both B.Ed and B.Ed Spl.Ed. for two-year each. Below is the minimum academic qualification required to apply for any of the programmes:

  • Aspirants must pass bachelor's or master's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for TNOU B.Ed and B.Ed Spl.Ed. programme.
  • Candidates with bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with specialisation in Science and Mathematics with a minimum of 55% aggregate can also apply.
  • There is relaxation in the aggregate for reserved category candidates. Aspirants belonging to BC/ BCM need 45% aggregate, 43% for MBC/ DNC and 40% for SC/ SCA/ ST in graduation.

Q:   Is B.Ed available in Tamil Nadu Open University?

Tamil Nadu Open University offers two-year B.Ed Special Education in distance education mode through the Department of Special Education. Besides, the university also offers two-year B.Ed programme. However, the student-teacher is
permitted to complete within a maximum period of 5 years, after the enrolment.

The duration for B.Ed Spl.Ed is two-years for candidates with RCI recognised D.Ed Specialisation Education, Candidates can complete the programme within a maximum period of four years, after enrolment. For aspirants who does not possess any RCI recignised D.Ed Special Education, the duration of the course is two and a half years.

Q:   What is the selection criteria for B.Ed at TNOU?

A: 

Tamil Nadu Open University selects candidates for B.Ed based on their merit in the last qualifying exam. For B.Ed Special Education, the university conducts an entrance exam. Once the results are out, candidates are further called for counselling. In case of B.Ed, TNOU releases a rank list. Shortlisted candidates need to participate in the admission counselling. During the counselling, candidates are allotted learner support centres.

TNOU offers two-year B.Ed Special Education in distance education mode via the Department of Special Education and affiliated colleges. The course is spread across four semesters. The duration is two-years for candidates with RCI recognised D.Ed Specialisation Education, Candidates can complete the programme within a maximum period of four years, after enrolment.

For candidates who does not possess any RCI recignised D.Ed Special Education, the duration of the course is two and a half years. However, the student is permitted to complete the programme within a maximum period of 5 years, after enrolment.
