Company Secretary (CS) is a professional course that prepares the aspirant to learn how to take charge of statutory and legal compliance of a company which may be a private or a public enterprise. Those working as Company Secretary act as a connection or line of communication between corporate and government bodies. The need for CS has been rapidly increasing among the corporate world because of the introduction of the listing agreements and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) rules, which the companies have to comply with. Average Annual Salary of CS
The average annual salary of a CS professional is mostly defined by the number of attempts they have made to clear the exams. It is believed that if a candidate has cleared the exam in the first attempt, they are likely to get paid better than the ones clearing the exam in the second or the third attempt. A candidate is allowed to attend the final CS examination only three times in a lifetime.
- Freshers who pass the exam in the first attempt are paid average salaries ranging up to Rs 4.1 lakh per annum by private corporates. Government undertakings pay the same salary irrespective of the number of attempts required to pass.
- Freshers who pass in the 2nd attempt are paid average salaries ranging from Rs 3 to 3.5 lakh per annum.
It has been often seen that the salaries of the CS increase with time and experience rather than the number of attempts they have required to pass the examination. While the average salary of fresher may start at somewhere around Rs 4 lakh per annum, it can go up to Rs 9 lakh with an experience ranging between five and nine years and touch Rs 20 lakh per annum for those with an experience of 20 years and over.
