Mystory@Sakshi Rajesh: How I chose my college and career path

Mystory@Sakshi Rajesh

I completed my schooling from St. Mira's Secondary School, Pune. Since childhood, I've been a part of several co-curricular activities which include dance and drama apart from debates and quiz competitions. These activities, I think, have played a very vital role in making me do everything along with studies. I always wanted this to continue, even with the end of my journey in school.

Without any particular interest, I chose Commerce stream after class X, since I wasn't very fond of the Science subjects. I always had this desire to keep doing what I did and not get too engrossed into building my career, leaving behind the things I love.

I decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy (CA) course. I knew it was going to be challenging, but something inside me said that I should go for it.

Once I got into the Commerce stream, like all new comers I was confused. Many paths opened up for me and every path seemed appealing. With time, I came to know the minute details about various courses and finally I decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy (CA) course. I knew it was going to be challenging, but something inside me said that I should go for it. Since I also wanted a graduation degree along with CA, I got into pursuing my bachelor's in Commerce from the same college, i.e. BMCC.

How I cracked college admission

After I had decided upon doing BCom, it was Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC), I wanted to get into. Falling short by a few marks from the closing list, I was denied admission. But I hoped that maybe I could get in, in the next round or the next, but every time I was left behind. And then one day, like a dream come true, I got a seat and was part of this college. The thing that I had been hoping for, had finally happened. With great teachers and a lot of scope for growth, BMCC has been a wonderful phase of my life.

Another important phase of my education along with college has been the CA course. I decided to pursue the course towards the end of my 11th class and immediately with the start of my 12th standard, I began coaching for the entrance test named CPT (Common Proficiency Test) that takes place after 12th std. Board exams. It seemed a little different and tough in the start since I had not known much about professional examinations, but with time, I started getting fond of this course. So it had been my commerce degree and chartered accountancy course going together.

My college experience

If anyone asks me the best part of my journey in college, without any doubt I would say it is 'Astitva’. It is an event held by BMCC every year which aims at promoting Indian Heritage amongst students who form a part of today's youth. There are various competitions that take place during this event and all have a heritage theme behind them. From a volunteer to being an organiser, I've been its part for five years now and I still wish to contribute in the years to come.

I've seen myself grow and become better while in Astitva. Along with this, we've also had other activities like orphanage and old age home visits, short film screenings, interaction with famous artists, world language day celebration with all the international students, heritage visits, etc.

In all these years of college, events and CA, I also started taking time out for writing. Writing has always been a therapy for me and I often wrote short pieces of text or incidents out of my own observation. When my friends came across this, they pushed me to start writing my blog for the world to read since they found it was good. And then one day, in 2016, I finally published my first story and thus started my blog - 'To Life, Of Life.' This is the link to my blog where you can find short fictional stories and a little bit of poetry - tolifeoflife.wordpress.com/

If you read through my stories, you'll find a connect with your own lives and experiences and emotions that we come across. That's what the name implies, stories about you, for you. I've posted almost 23 stories and two poems in this last one year and wish to keep doing that until I run out of words.
