As far as the BTech academic journey is concerned, no doubt there are exceptional upsides of the engineering degree in terms of earning potential, job satisfaction score, career prospects, and respectability in society. However, there are a few downsides too that you must be aware of before heading towards the academic lane, as listed below:
- Difficulty in grasping the vast coursework that may also come across as quite overwhelming at times
- Not being able to cope with the academic pressure that demands theory-based learning along with extensive practical training and hands-on expertise via laboratory classes and project work
- Unable to manage your time and struggling with work and personal life balance
- Lack of industry readiness and financial crisis may also be added to the list.
You can tackle all of these with patience, dedication, and seeking support from your friends, family, and professionals in the field.
This is a common question that most of the students have in mind since pursuing a BTech degree is no cakewalk when it comes to the financial aspect of it. The total cost of pursuing BTech at popular private colleges ranges between INR 2 lakh and INR 15 lakh approx., depending on the college and your chosen specialization, while for government colleges, it is around INR 50,000 to INR 8 lakh.
But the good part is, you can easily cover all of your academic expenses after completing the BTech degree, as it offers exceptionally good earning potential across work sectors with recruiters looking for talented BTech graduates to join them every year. You can easily earn an average salary of INR 5 LPA to INR 8 LPA at the beginning itself, given you have the required skill set and knowledge to become an asset for the recruiter.
There are more than 1,300 universities abroad that offer BTech courses in various specializations. Some of the most sought-after universities along with their first year tuition fee for BTech are given below:

The clear answer to this question is no. An online BTech degree is considered invalid in India after the strict guidelines of AICTE and UGC because they give a lot of value to practical training and classroom learning, which is not possible in the online mode of learning. If we talk about the core Engineering specializations like Civil Engineering, CSE, Mechanical Engg. and Electrical Engineering, all of these require hands-on practical training to be able to gain the right set of skills needed for the workforce in the job market.
So, it is better to go for a regular offline BTech degree if you want to have a successful career in the field of engineering and technology.
Electrical Engineering belongs to one of the core branches of Engineering that gives extensive knowledge about engineering applications, presenting endless opportunities to Engineering aspirants and working professionals for innovation and experimentation, especially when it comes to the field of electrical systems and electromagnetics. In this world of digitalization, electrical engineers play an important role with their contribution in the uninterrupted flow of electrical power, creation and design of circuit networks needed for electronic devices, wireless communication facilities, power grids construction and maintenance, electrical equipment, etc.
Electrical Engineering courses are quite popular among students, which basically cover the behavior and manipulation of electricity for various purposes where students get to study electrical and electromagnetic theory and its applications.
The core subjects taught under Electrical Engineering course are:
- Rotating AC Machines
- Digital Electronic Circuits
- High Voltage Engineering
- Microprocessor and Micro-Controller
- Power Electronic Converters
The elective courses in Electrical Engineering include:
- Signals and Systems
- Computer Techniques in Power System
- Control of Electric Drives
- Dynamics and Modelling of Electrical Machines
- Advanced Electrical Power System
Recruiters in India do not give value to online BTech courses anymore as they are not recognised by the AICTE and UGC and are considered invalid at present. The problem with online BTech degree is that it restricts your practical learning experience and limits your networking opportunities, both of which are very important in today's world to get a decent job in the market.
All of the top recruiters want a skilled pool of people who have a good knowledge of the technical know-how and have the right set of skills to be able to contribute to the growth of their business model. All of this is not possible in the online mode and hence, the recruiters do not accept students with an online BTech degree.

For getting admission to M.Tech courses in India, almost all of the top colleges ask you to give relevant entrance tests and get excellent marks in the same as the cutoffs are quite high for an M Tech degree. The GATE exam is the most prominent exam that takes place every year for admission to M.Tech courses. You need to meet the minimum eligibility requirements of getting at least 55% marks in graduation in any relevant engineering specialization.
Talking about the IITs in India, they do offer an exception to IIT graduates who can apply for direct MTech admission if they have secured 8 CGPA or 75% marks in their BTech degree.
For pursuing M.Tech in India, you should definitely give relevant entrance exams like the GATE exam or other state-level or university-specific exams and score very good marks and rank in the same to be able to get a seat at a decent college. M.Tech courses can be studied in various specializations like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, CSE, Electrical Engineering, etc.
As an exceptional case, if you are an IIT BTech graduates, you can directly apply for M.Tech admission at the IITs after getting an 8 CGPA or 75% marks in graduation.
There is definitely some sort of marks relaxation offered to reserved category students during the M.Tech admission process. Generally, the relaxation offered is by 5% marks. For example, if the general category students have to get at least 60% marks to be eligible for M.Tech admission, reserved category students need to get only 55% marks.
M Tech full form is Master of Technology, and the syllabus for the course includes some core subjects, elective subject choices and, of course, mandatory project work and industrial training as a part of the course curriculum. Since the M.Tech degree is an advanced-level PG degree, it focuses more on technical proficiency, practical training, and industry-specific skill-based learning to equip the students with the right set of skills and knowledge needed to excel at the workplace.

Well, there is no straight answer to this question. It depends on the college, your academic background, and the chosen specialization. A few colleges may give you this provision where you can switch your specialisation during the M.Tech coursework duration, given you meet certain academic requirements, pass some additional tests, opt for some bridge programme to cope with the curriculum, or choose a specialisation within the same engineering stream.
But in most cases, it generally becomes difficult to make that switch, as MTech is a 2-year specialised programme dealing with advanced concepts and practical training planned out in a certain manner and course flow, which makes it difficult for colleges to allow that transition.
An MTech degree can be the right choice for you if you want to enhance your learning in a specific engineering field, have a passion for research, and want to apply for specific industrial job roles that need expertise.
An M.Tech degree requires you to have a fire in the belly for specialised learning and exploration within a particular field of interest. So, if you are someone who has that, you can surely go ahead and opt for an M.Tech in a specialisation that interests you the most and looks promising to you.
The difficulty level of the M.Tech entrance tests usually depends on various parameters like the previous year's student response, the number of exam applicants, the estimated number of seats available, and of course, your own preparation. The M Tech exam-conducting body looks at various factors and sets the exam paper accordingly.
However, in general, the entrance for M.Tech like GATE or other state-level exams is considered to be challenging and tricky to crack. You need to really put in a lot of hard work, as it is not going to be a cakewalk.
After completing MTech, a candidate can easily find a job in research and development companies, manufacturing firms, and IT companies as Project Manager, Research Associate, and Senior Engineers. Some of the candidates also prefer academic jobs such as teaching in a college or becoming a professor. Candidates can also work as Lead Scientist, Lead Engineer and also work as consultants in popular organisations.
Other than JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and CUET, there are a lot of other state-level BTech entrance tests that you can give and get excellent marks in to grab a seat at a decent college in the respective state. You can check the popular state-level entrance tests for BTech admission given below:
- MHT CET - Maharashtra
- AP EAMCET - Andhra Pradesh
- KCET & COMEDK UGET - Karnataka
- TS EAMCET - Telangana State
- KEAM - Kerala
- TNEA Counselling after 12th - Kerala
- GUJCET - Gujarat
You can find some basic yet important tips to prepare for BTech entrance tests given here:
- Start Early: Start with your exam preparation as early as possible, at least 8 to 10 months before the final exam is supposed to take place tentatively.
- Check the Exam Syllabus Thoroughly: You need to go through the BTech entrance exam syllabus very carefully and make sure to note down all the topics, especially the high-weightage syllabus sections.
- Make a Weekly Timetable: You should have a weekly timetable where you allot at least 2-3 topics to be covered each day to avoid early burnout and the feeling of being overwhelmed.
- Download Last Year's Question Papers: Download last year's question papers and take mock tests to analyze your preparation status and then plan the rest of the journey accordingly.
- Make a Revision Schedule: It is very important to have a revision schedule in place in the last 1-2 months so you can revise all the important topics and increase your chances of getting excellent marks by answering more questions confidently in the exam, without any fear of negative marking.
Not at all, the JEE Main exam is only the first step of the BTech admission process at the IITs; you then need to give the JEE Advanced exam as per your JEE Main cutoff percentile. After the entrance exam results are out, you also may have to give the GD or PI rounds for final seat allotment.
It is always better to go to the official college websites and read the detailed information about their BTech admission process.
The assignments given in BTech classes usually differ on the basis of the college where you're studying the course and the BTech specialization, but the common types of assignments may include industrial research projects, technical case studies, presentations, making analytical reports and essays, and problem-solving quizzes.
The daily routine of a BTech student includes attending theory classes that teach you about the basic concepts of engineering and your chosen specialization, along with hands-on training sessions via lab classes, group studies, informative workshops, and project work. Outside the classroom as well, most of the passionate ones are busy taking up additional certifications or internships to learn as many new skills as possible.
If we look at the market demand, no doubt there is huge demand for BTech (Full Form: Bachelor of Technology) graduates among top recruiters who are constantly looking for skilled and knowledgeable students with fresh ideas to enhance their business growth and profitability.
Having said that, a few previous-year employment reports published by the Business Standard and Times of India suggest that students found it a struggle to land a high-paying job after completing BTech because of a lack of industry-specific skills and knowledge and cut-throat competition between Lacs of engineering students hunting for a job.
Hence, it is very important for students to focus on enhancing their skill set according to industrial demands and technological advancements, stay updated regarding all industry trends, build good networks and, most importantly, take up internships to gain experience and stand out in front of the employer.

There is a mandatory dissertation work or project component in the final semester of the MTech curriculum, where you need to choose a particular topic and submit a detailed research work on the same, which is important to test your analytical aptitude and how you put your academic learning and lab experience to solve a real-world challenge. The dissertation work gives you an opportunity to learn, explore, and experiment.
This depends on the college or university where you're pursuing an MTech. Top colleges do collaborate with relevant industries and research organizations to give the students the best academic experience possible that is coupled with advanced technological lab work, professional guest lectures, and research opportunities.
Industrial collaborations also lead to internship opportunities at prominent companies, excellent placements, and skill development opportunities, which result in new discoveries and learning experiences.
Well, yes. You can study an MTech degree in a different branch than your BTech, given you meet the minimum eligibility requirements and pass the GATE exam in the relevant discipline. Several top colleges prefer you to have done your BTech at least in a related branch, while others follow a more flexible approach.
Interestingly, recently IIT Delhi has introduced cross-branch M.Tech options in the 3rd year of your BTech degree, where you can choose to pursue M.Tech in any specialisation in the third year of your BTech course and graduate with a dual degree at the end of 5 years.
There are approximately 4,739 BTech colleges in India. The average B Tech course fees ranges from INR 2 lakh to INR 15 lakh. The BTech fees structure can differ on the basis of various factors like the college offering the BTech program, its location, its All-India ranking, and the chosen specialization.
There are more than 720 government BTech colleges and 3,680 private BTech colleges in India that offer a wonderful learning environment and practical exposure to students.
Each person will have a different answer for this question. If you have a lot of passion for a particular BTech branch and have a set future plan in mind, you should surely go for branch over college.
But, if you are not sure about your future career path and are not passionate about a particular branch, you can go for a top rated college over the BTech branch, the one with excellent networking opportunities and placement support.
The B Tech course fees in India is affected by various important parameters like the colleges' All-India ranking, its location, placement records, industry networks, infrastructure, teaching faculty, practical lab work, etc.
Students must go through the BTech course fee carefully before deciding the college to avoid any confusion at the time of admission.
BTech courses focus on both aspects, theoretical classroom knowledge as well as practical, hands-on training in lab classes so that you have a foundational understanding of the engineering principles and later apply those to tackle real-world challenges at the workplace. There are core class lectures, along with lab sessions, projects, industrial visits, workshops, and internships.
