ICAI Cancels May 2021 CA Intermediate and Final Exams Due to COVID-19

The ICAI has announced postponement of Final and Intermediate CA exams to be held in May, in wake of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India postponed the Final and Intermediate CA exams in wake of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India. In an official circular issued late on April 27, the ICAI said, "In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of welfare & well - being of students and to mitigate their hardships, it has been decided to postpone the Final and Intermediate Chartered Accountants Examinations which are scheduled to commence from 21st (Final) / 22nd (Intermediate) May, 2021 across the globe."

"However, situation of pandemic will be reviewed (COVID cases, MHA guidelines, Centre and State Government directions) and fresh dates will be intimated to students. While doing so, a notice of at least 25 days will be given before the start of the examinations," the notice further said. 

The ICAI CA Intermediate and Final exams for May 2021 phase were scheduled to begin from May 21. The CA exams are conducted at over 1000 exam centres across the country. However, with the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases and consequent lock down, conduct of the exam is impossible. Also, the safety of students is top priority for the ICAI and thus the decision has been to postpone the exam. New exam dates for CA Intermediate and Final will be announced soon. 

There is no change in the schedule of CA Foundation course exams which are scheduled to be held from June 24 to June 30.

Earlier, the ICAI had also announced further extension of the last date for waiving-off Condonation Fees due to delay in submission of application forms related to students and articled assistants, amidst COVID-19 Pandemic.

Due to the current COVID 19 crisis some of the Students/Articled Assistants are  facing difficulties in online filing of prescribed applications forms due to non-availability of non-judicial stamp papers for the execution of articleship deed, Form 112 seeking permission to pursue another course due to closure of academic institutions, etc.

This is causing delay in online submission of application forms inviting levy of Condonation Fees. The ICAI thus decided to further extend the last date of waiving–off Condonation Fees to June 30, 2021.
