A Blend of Classroom Learning and Industry Exposure is What has Helped, Says JIMS Rohini Alumni
The year 2014 was quite an important year for me and is closest to my heart. That is the year I got my first job after completing my post-graduation from JIMS Rohini Sec-5. I vividly remember the phase, when multiple rounds of campus placement interviews were being conducted on campus and the strange feeling of possible rejection. However, I mustered the courage to sit for the interviews to land an exciting opportunity that was just right for me. This was thrilling, especially since my decision to join JIMS Rohini to pursue PGDM- Human Resource Management was not easy, as I had to decide whether I wished to leave my hometown or not. But, I took the step forward to come to Delhi – the City of Aspirations, with my dream of achieving big in life.
How it all began!
Our PGDM classes began in July 2012. Though the institute has a hostel facility nearby campus, I chose to stay with my friends in their hostel to relish their company after college hours. During that period it rains cats and dogs in the northern part of the country and I was jostling to find accommodation near the institute. But it was fun. The best part was the orientation, where arrangements were made for us to visit the campus and get to know all the faculty members and the seniors. In fact, in the first trimester, we were introduced to stellar alumni who guided us about the expectation from the PGDM course and the industry expectations. Gradually we got hooked on the institute and started participating in the club activities, symposiums and seminars. I was actively involved in organizing many activities for the student community such as fests, annual exhibitions and sports events. The journey was a perfect blend of classroom and extra-curricular activities.

Turfing the Midway!
As our first year came to an end, it was time for an internship. The summer internship was one of the toughest phases as we were introduced to corporate life for the first time. The placement team at JIMS Rohini extended their complete support in letting us tap into the right opportunity. I enrolled for summer placement in one of the HR start-ups, where I got to learn a lot about HR roles and best practices in the job market. After the course completion, we had to submit our project reports in which the faculty assisted us in framing the reports in the right manner.

Goosebumps of Achievements!
After the internship, we were gradually exposed to more and more seminars, conferences, and industry visits. The philosophy of the institute is to train future managers with not only the course curriculum but beyond. We realised that the faculty at the institute personally pays attention to the holistic development of each student. In the fifth and sixth trimesters, hand-holding sessions with the alumni were conducted quite often as they guided us in choosing the right career path. We had discourses from industry experts who would give us a sneak peek of the latest market trends.
Right Place at the Right Time!
With numerous companies flocking to the JIMS Rohini campus, the placement team was in action 24x7. We were tested and trained on presentation skills, mock interview sessions, group discussions and much more. They organized regular sessions for personality development. I landed up with an offer letter exactly 3 weeks before the completion of my course and just as the exams were approaching. Frankly, the opportunity hit the right note for me because my stress of not getting the job completely vanished.
I got my first job with Acer as HRBP. Since then, there is no looking back. Today, I am working with the Paytm Money division as their Head of HR. My experience and the time I spent with JIMS Rohini Sec-5 have been highly enthralling. Those were the best years of my life. It was here that I acquired the skills of managing time, people and resources with astuteness. I hope that each one of you will get the opportunity to pursue an MBA before joining the corporate world.

With a rank of 6019 in IPU CET and 52% in Class 12, it is going to be tough getting admission in the BCA programme in JIMS (Jagannath International Management School), as the cut-off ranks are usually above the marks secured by most students according to demand and competition.
