All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) laid down instructions for all its affiliated institutes and directed them to follow the same during the second phase of the lockdown i.e. lockdown 2.0. The nationwide lockdown due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country raptured the educational system. Suspended classes, postponed exams and delayed results affected the ongoing as well as the upcoming academic calendar.
The outcome of the same is being faced by both students as well as academic institutions. While the institutes are trying their best to impart education online, there are certain other aspects that are needed to be taken care of. Talking about these important aspects, AICTE highlighted points such as ‘non-insistence of fees, ‘payment of salary’, ‘discouragement of fake news’, ‘PM's special scholarship scheme’, ‘online classes and semester exams’, ‘internships’, and ‘sharing of internet bandwidth’.
From directing institutes not to pressurize students for making fee payments during the lockdown period, to asking them to generate full salaries of the staff members, the Council laid down all the important instructions. The Council also urged institutes to inform the concerned authorities in case they come across any fake news and asked them to regularly update their official websites to keep students informed with all the authentic information.
The Council also talked about the online classes and semester examinations during the lockdown 2.0. AICTE directed the institutes to go on with the online classes. Subsequently, a revised academic calendar on these lines will be shared with the institutes as well.
AICTE also advised students to join online internships and follow the norms of social distancing. Talking about the students who are facing internet issue and does not have internet access, the Council asked institutes to share their institute’s internet facility with such students.
Talking about the attendance system during the lockdown, the Council stated, ‘Attendance rule may be relaxed in the light of lockdown and unavailability of good bandwidth in certain rural areas.'
Considering the ongoing health and economic crisis in the country, AICTE directed all affiliated institutes to strictly adhere to these important instructions, failing which actions will be taken as per the prevailing rules.
