Assam Chief Minister asked the education department to ensure COVID-19 protocols are strictly followed in all the colleges and educational institutions that will reopen from November 2.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the education department to ensure that schools, colleges and other educational institutions that are all set to open from November 2 after more than seven months, strictly follow all the COVID-19 guidelines. As per the government officials, the classroom teaching for students of Classes 6 and above will begin from November 2. The education department informed that the students of classes 6, 7, 9 and 12 will engage in classroom teachings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of every week while those of classes 8, 10 and 11 would report to school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
In a similar way, college students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters would have classes for two, three and four days respectively week after week. Classes would begin in two phases and each phase is only allowed a maximum of 25 students.
The Chief Minister further stressed that the classes need to begin early in the morning and maintain a proper gap between classroom timings of two groups of students and keep toilets clean and sanitised. The CM raised this issue with the officials of the education and health department. Instructions were issued supporting usage of audiovisual tools and other ways such as storytelling in the first month to mould students back to the form of formal education, said an official release.
The chief minister insisted that the education department must provide smartphones to the students of economically disadvantaged sections for attending online classes. The education ministry has instructed the department to provide iron and folic acid tablets to students to boost their immunity. The schools have also been asked to hold yoga classes and conduct regular health screenings of pupils.
