This initiative is part of the endeavours being taken by CBSE to motivate students with Benchmark Disabilities for Class 10 and 12 examinations held by the CBSE.

The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) is going to allow the use of basic calculators for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) appearing for class 10 or 12 board exams, as per an official circular. The board exam for class 10 students is slated to begin from February 15 and end on March 20. On the other hand, the board exam for class 12 students also is slated to begin from February 15 and end on March 30.

"In addition to Concession/Exemptions being extended as contained in circular no CBSE/COORD/112233/2019 Dated 12th April 2019, Board has decided to facilitate such students by permitting the use of Simple Basic Calculator during Class X & Class XII Board's Examinations," the circular read.

This initiative is part of the endeavours being taken by CBSE to motivate students with Benchmark Disabilities for Class 10 and 12 examinations held by the CBSE according to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act -2016. The use of a calculator will only be permitted to those students who have already registered under CWSN category for Class 10 and 12 examinations.

To make use of the facility, the students are meant to request the schools by January 28. In response, principals must forward it to the concerned regional office of the CBSE. Candidates who will not give request without an appropriate certificate will not be given permission to use a calculator during examinations. In 2018, CBSE had allowed specially-abled students to use a computer or laptop to write their exams.
