The university released the official notification on its web portal on April 2, 2020.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issued an official notification asking students to follow the lockdown rules set by the government to combat the COVID-19 spread. The notice came a day after when a JNU student claimed that the University’s security guards manhandled him while he was trying to go off the campus. The notification released by the university clearly states that the students and teachers (all JNU campus residents) must follow the rules of the nationwide lockdown or face disciplinary actions for violating them.
The university released the official notification on its web portal on April 2, 2020. The notice stated that it is disgraceful as well as unsafe that a few students of the university are repeatedly violating the guidelines of the lockdown set by the central government and the administration of the university in order to control the spread of the deadly virus COVID-19.
The notice also states that the university will take strict action against those students who will be caught for any offense. The notification reads that those caught indulging in activities, which endanger the health and safety on the campus residents of the university are warned not to repeat the same or else strict action will be taken.
The university also addressed the notice to the section of the teachers who issued a press release supporting the students and criticizing the university administration. The notice states that the students are directly and indirectly encouraged by a few staff members while the entire student community in the campus is cooperating with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the university.
However, JNU Teachers Association (JNUTA) cautioned the university administration and the security personnel not to assume that they can get away with anything due to the prevailing situations.
