The higher education minister Bhanwar Singh Bhati stated, ‘a committee has been formed under Rajasthan University VC R K Kothari to review the situation and prepare a report on how to resume exams when the situation will become normal.’
With the increasing health crisis in India due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the higher education department of Rajasthan indefinitely postponed the examinations of all universities and colleges for an indefinite period. The department also declared summer vacation for colleges from April 16 to May 30.
Discussing the strategy and decision to postpone the examinations and prepone summer breaks, the higher education minister Bhanwar Singh Bhati stated, ‘a committee has been formed under Rajasthan University VC R K Kothari to review the situation and prepare a report on how to resume exams when the situation will become normal.’
The minister also stated that the decision is applicable to both private and government higher education institutes.
Earlier, Rajasthan University postponed all the semester examinations scheduled until March 31. The University postponed all theory and practical examinations scheduled between March 19 and March 31.
The University took the decision of postponing the examinations in order to control the coronavirus spread during examinations. The announcement came after the release of the University Grant Commission (UGC) press release asking all Universities and colleges to suspend classroom lectures and reschedule all examinations. The official circular also stated the suspension of evaluation work till March 31.
It was expected that new dates for the postponed examinations will be released by the University on its official website. However, with such an uncertain situation, authorities could not reschedule the examinations, rather postponed them again.
On March 14, the Rajasthan University released an advisory stating the precautions being taken in the campus to combat the novel coronavirus. The advisory also had the preventive measures to be followed in the wake of the pandemic. Students residing in hostels were asked not to gather in large groups in one place.
