NISA President, Kulbhushan Sharma, stated that due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country, the economy is facing a crisis and so are the private schools, especially budget schools. 

The National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA), a platform that represents budget private schools (BPS) in a unified form, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to seek relief for private schools. The letter is in regards to the speculation going around that the government will waive off the school fees for the next three months.

In the letter, NISA urged the government and the concerned ministries, not to issue any orders related to school fee waiver for the next three months. The private school body also demanded the government immediately release the reimbursement amount of students belonging to the EWS category (Economically Weaker Section) claiming that the amount is pending for many years. NISA President, Kulbhushan Sharma, stated that due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country, the economy is facing a crisis and so are the private schools, especially budget schools. 

He also mentioned that there are more than 5 lakh private schools in the country that provide quality education to crores of poor students. Also, the livelihood of more than two crore teaching and non-teaching staff is dependent upon these schools.

Concerning over budget schools not having any additional earning and saving other than school fees, NISA president stated schools are already facing challenges towards generating sufficient salaries for the employees. If the government issues any notice to waive off school fees, then the budget schools will face an existential crisis. He also demanded the government to issue a new academic session will less number of holidays so that the classes can run smoothly for 220 days. Mr Sharma also suggested the government help poor and needy parents in paying the school fee by putting an equal amount of money in their bank accounts under DBT.
