The Delhi Parent’s Association sent short inputs and views from 2,498 parents, almost all of whom stated they are not comfortable sending their children to schools currently.

Delhi School Reopening: While students across many states have already started going to school again, there are various states who are still prepping up to reopen schools. Delhi is among those states who are yet to reopen its schools. However, the latest media reports suggest that Nearly 2,500 parents of children studying in Delhi schools made a representation to the office of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, requesting that schools not be opened this academic year considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. States that already reopened the schools clearly stated that consent from parents is a must fro students to attend school. However, recently, in an email to the CMO, the Delhi Parent’s Association sent short inputs and views from 2,498 parents, almost all of whom stated they are not comfortable sending their children to schools currently.

Speaking on when to reopen schools, one of the parents, Rajeev Arora said“Schools should be reopened when zero Covid-19 cases are reported for at least 10 days or when a vaccine is available. Else, the government should declare this year as zero years. Students till Class VIII should be promoted to the next class, and for students of Classes IX to XII, they should conduct some online test."

State governments across the country are sending directives to schools along with the mandatory guidelines to be followed to prevent COVID-19 spread while reopening schools. However, there are chances of delay in the reopening of Delhi school considering the latest appeal made by the parents. Meanwhile, online classes are still ongoing to curb academic loss.
