A survey conducted by the Lady Shri Ram College, DU, also revealed that more than 58 percent of the students are rarely able to attend online classes.
Lady Shri Ram College, DU, conducted a survey among students regarding the open-book exams to be conducted by the University of Delhi. According to the survey, as the Delhi University gears up to hold exams through open-book mode, more than 68 percent of students said they would not be able to take the online exams. Around 58 percent of the students surveyed said they have an internet connection out of which 46.4 percent of them have a broadband connection. The survey revealed that the respondents were not in favour of taking online exams.
The survey came when DU declared that open-book mode of exams will be conducted in the University colleges in case the situation affected by the spread of the novel coronavirus does not normalize. The decision received a lot of backlash from students and teachers. While 71 percent of students expressed that concentrating on studies while staying at home was an issue, around 75.4 percent of those surveyed said they are going through mental stress owing to the lockdown and the pandemic.
As the University is shut due to the COVID-19 lockdown imposed in order to contain the virus spread, the mode of teaching and learning is already shifted online by the University. Talking about the classes conducted online during the lockdown, the LSR survey revealed that more than 58 percent of the students are rarely able to attend online classes.
Meanwhile, the University of Delhi cleared that the ‘open book exams’ are ‘not online mode’ and ‘minimal internet’ will be required for conducting the same. The clarification came along with a list of guidelines issued by the University for setting questions for the open book exams.
DU in the guidelines stated that exams will only require “minimal internet” for “downloading and uploading purposes”. Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus followed by multiple lockdowns in order to control the virus spread ruptured the education system of India. Amid such a tense situation, the academic institutions explored various other ways to continue the teaching-learning process.
