Haryana Government on June 23 announced the decision to cancel the intermediate and final semester exams in the universities, technical education institutes, and colleges of the state.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on June 23 announced the decision to cancel the intermediate and final semester exams in the universities, technical education institutes, and colleges of the state. The state government decided to cancel semester exams in the view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the educational activities and academic calendar across the country.
According to a reputed source, students will be promoted to the next class on the basis of internal assessment and previous semester marks.
Haryana CM, Mr Khattar announced the decision regarding the cancellation of the exams on Twitter stating, “Haryana Government has decided not to conduct final semester exams in universities, colleges, and institutes of technical education. Students will be promoted to the next semester.”
Earlier the reports suggested that the Haryana Higher and Technical Education Department decided to conduct all terminal examinations of final semesters from July 1 to 31.
According to various media reports, Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal said that universities may conduct online exams if it is “fully prepared and equipped” and students are able to sit for exams. Once the normalcy is restored, students will be given the option to improve their grades on the basis of a written exam
Arrears and Distance Education Students
According to the report, “Students with academic arrears in previous examinations may also be exempted and promoted to the next semester on the average basis of the previous examinations. The same formula will also be applicable for distance education and private students.
First-year students, however, will be promoted on the basis of internal assessment marks only.
While addressing the media, Mr Pal said, “Practical examinations wherever not conducted so far, the marks are to be awarded as an average of all previous practical examinations or the 80 per cent average of theory examinations marks of previous semesters whichever is higher.”
Online Admissions in Haryana Universities and Colleges
The reports suggest the Higher Education Department will conduct a centralised online admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate levels in colleges. Admissions to university teaching departments are supposed to be conducted at their level.
The polytechnic institutes will promote the students in a similar manner.
