The Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) programme by IGNOU will be offered from the January 2020 admission cycle.

IGNOU's School of Computer and Information Sciences (SOCIS) has launched the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA). Students will be able to apply for the programme from January 2020 admission cycle.

The programme aims to prepare graduate students for productive careers in the software industry. Its focus will be on providing students a thorough background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the latest computer software development, said IGNOU in an official statement.

The PG Diploma programme emphasizes the application of software technology to solve computing, mathematical, communications or networking and commercial problems. It is a stand-alone programme that consists of 12 courses worth 36 credits.

The medium of instruction of the course is English and follows the semester system. Its aims at skill development in computers using various technologies. It will help students design and develop small business application software or become lab personnel or technician in institutions or a freelancer to develop software projects. The duration of the programme is a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years. It will be offered in both January and July cycle of admissions.

The programme has been divided into two semesters per year (January-June and July-December). As a result, there will be two examinations every year – in June and in December respectively. The students can appear for any of the examinations conducted by the University during the year subject to completing the minimum time frame and other formalities prescribed for the programme.

Eligibility

  • Candidates who have completed their Bachelor's degree programme of a minimum 3-year duration from a recognized University in any stream can apply.
  • Candidates must have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or graduation level; else the student is required to pursue and pass the BCS-012 course simultaneously with PGDCA.
