Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new building in February 2019. The institute has been functioning from IT Park in Hubballi since 2015.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad is all set to start the current academic year from its own building located in Tadasinakoppa village near Dharwad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new building in a 60 acres campus at Tadasinakoppa village in February 2019. The main construction work of the building is done and only minor work needs to be completed.
According to sources, the campus is divided into five blocks consisting of two large buildings meant for administrative and academic word, one building for health and fitness and the other two are hostels for boys and girls.
All administrative activities and faculty have already been shifted from IT Park to the new campus. IIIT Dharwad Director Prof Kavi Mahesh said, “The administrative officials and faculties inspected the work and suggested some minor modifications, which are being followed by the contractor."
He said, "The building will be complete in a week or two and it will be ready to host classes." Mahesh said as of now, physical classes had not resumed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They would start offline classes in November after first-year students are admitted for various courses.
The Director said the campus building of 4 lakh square feet can accommodate 1,200 students. The college authorities have approached the Prime Minister’s Office to seek his schedule for inauguration for the new building. They are yet to receive a reply from them.
