Kerala to prepare detailed plan for reopening schools

The Kerala government on September 18 announced its decision to reopen schools in the state from November 1. A government took the decision at a COVID-19 evaluation meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Kerala School Reopening: While various states across the country are reopening educational institutions, Kerala is yet to take a decision on its school reopening. A detailed action plan for reopening of schools in Kerala will be chalked out after holding discussions with concerned departments, state Education Minister V Sivankutty said, according to NDTV report. The minister further said that the ministry is discussing and analyzing the matter with various departments are to ensure the safety of the children attending the schools amid the pandemic.

"A detailed plan ensuring the safety of the children will be drawn up after holding discussions at the state and district level with health officials and the district collectors and submitted before the Chief Minister by October 15," Sivankutty told NDTV.

Talking further about the plan, the Minister said that it would involve ensuring face masks, sanitiser for students, maintaining social distancing and following guidelines laid down for vehicles that transport students to schools.

Schools in Kerala are shut since March last year. The Kerala government on September 18 announced its decision to reopen schools in the state from November 1. The government took the decision at a COVID-19 evaluation meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday. An official press release issued by the Chief Minister's office said, "The chief minister has directed the authorities to complete the necessary requirements to reopen the schools at least 15 days in advance. The classes for standards 1 to 7 (primary section) and 10 and 12 will begin from November 1. From November 15 all other classes will resume.
