The University of Kerala decided to conduct a re-exam for the students whose answer copies got accidentally burnt by the examiner.

The University of Kerala decided to conduct a re-exam for the students whose answer copies got accidentally burnt by the examiner. According to the reports, the evaluator was evaluating the copies at her home for the subject of BSc Chemistry.

The teacher is from MSM College, Kayamkulam. While she was evaluating the first-semester answer sheets at her home, the accident took place through a lamp. An FIR for the same is also received by the University from the police. Kerala University started the evaluation process at home due to the extended COVID-19 lockdown imposed in order to control the virus spread. According to the information that the teacher R Annu gave to the police, a total of thirty-eight answer copies got burnt in the accident.

According to the statement given by the teacher, the accident took place at her home, she was examining the answer sheet under a table lamp and while she went to get some food, she left the sheets there which caught fire.

A case is registered by the police and forensic official as well as the electrical inspectorate official also examined the location. A final decision in this regard is yet to be taken by the Standing Committee of the University. For now, the University is planning to conduct a re-exam for the affected students only.

Dr N Gopakumar, the Examination Controller of KU, informed that the results will be published with the other students once the evaluation of the answer sheets is complete. The University’s final action in this regard would be based on the investigation report.
