Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with Minister of Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant and Prajakt Tanpure, the minister of the state to end the uncertainty over university exams in the state of Maharashtra on May 31, 2020.
Maharashtra Government is all set to cancel Final-year University exams across state in the view of the COVID-19 crisis prevailing in the country. According to the media reports, Maharashtra Chief Minister informed that the students would be marked on their aggregate scores in the previous semesters for the academic year. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with Minister of Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant and Prajakt Tanpure, the minister of the state to end the uncertainty over university exams in the state of Maharashtra on May 31, 2020.
The meeting held via video conferencing by the CM, was attended by Mumbai University vice-chancellor and various officials from non-agricultural universities too. After the meeting, the decision was officially posted through the CMO Maharashtra Twitter handle. The tweet reads, “As the monsoons begin, the academic year will start. There are questions about when schools and colleges will begin and if and when final year exams will be held.”
The next tweet informing about the decision states, “I held a meeting of Vice-Chancellors yesterday regarding final year college exams. They unanimously said that the present circumstances do not allow for examinations to be held immediately as it is risky for lakhs of students to come together for exams.”
The Maharashtra government decided to take this decision considering the ongoing health emergency due to the pandemic outbreak in the country. The decision was unanimously taken to not conduct any exams in the state risking the lives of lakhs of students, instead find other ways to save the academic year of the students. The reports suggest that the students who wish to appear in the exams to improve their scores can do so in the month of September, October or November based on the situation of coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The minister also informed about new admissions in the state. He said the officials must focus on the online mode of education in universities. The increasing cases of the pandemic locked the people inside which must be used as an opportunity to shift to E-Learning as per the CM. The government would also talk to the mobile network providers for the same, informed the CM.
