AID has been a strong foundation to my well-designed future, says Revati Anilkumar Patil
In 2009, I was selected to join Apeejay Institute of Design to pursue a graduation course in Graphic Design. During the period of four years, the emphasis was laid on the growth of an individual as a designer or artist as well as the personal growth of an individual. The faculty was encouraging and made all possible efforts to focus on individuals despite having three classes of around 30 students each.
The first two years were dedicated to developing the basics of Design which turned out to be the game-changer for my career and till today I am using it in my practice and that makes me stand out as a designer in the western world. Understanding of colour, shapes, texture, lines, values and space is something which has been instilled in me by the faculty of AID. Due to the friendly atmosphere and well-equipped infrastructure at the campus, it became easier for me and for everyone to express their emotions and opinions and I believe emotions and opinions are a necessity to become a designer. This helped me become a great employee possessing a quality of empathy.
The last two years were completely dedicated to preparing us for the outside world of design. Sketching and live drawing throughout the four years of the course were the main themes due to which today I am able to understand the client's demands in the initial stages and deliver them quality results.
Currently, I am working as a Digital Communications Designer in Munich but I am proud to say that my strong foundation has been laid by the faculty of AID, Delhi. It is the combined effort of all faculty members who were responsible for the delivery of the content and the management who was responsible for the design of the industry-embedded curriculum. Apart from studies, we were encouraged to participate in cultural events, too. There was enough space given to develop ourselves outside the field of Design. I was able to retouch my roots of Kathak dance at AID and after graduation, I completed my senior diploma in Kathak dance.
Due to my strong understanding of colours which I realised during the journey, I was able to complete my MA in Graphic Design from the Netherlands in Color Psychology. In the end, I must say that if the ‘building’ is standing tall for so many years despite challenges faced by it, then that means it has got a strong ‘foundation’ and base. And that ‘building’ is me and that foundation was laid by AID and its faculty.
