Being a student of PGDM, I have experienced a lot of change in myself: Ashish Sen

I always wanted to enter the corporate world and therefore, opted for commerce after my matriculation so I get the basic knowledge of accounting, business and all other aspects of the corporate world.

After completing my higher secondary education, I went to Xavier’s College to pursue Bachelor in Commerce (Honours) with a specialisation in Accounts. I chose B.Com over Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) to have broader options for further studies.

After Graduation, I chose to move to Bengaluru for post-graduation as it is one of the best places to study in India and I will also get many other opportunities here. For admissions in PGDM, I appeared for different qualifying exams such as CAT, XAT, CMAT, and TISS as nearly every college accepts the score these qualifying exams. For the preparation of the entrance tests, I underwent the preparation for one-year.

Getting admission in ABBS School of Management was quite challenging. The selection process comprised of aptitude test, group discussion, extempore and personal interview. There were various parameters on the basis of which candidates were evaluated. After clearing all these rounds, I got the admission in the college.

I was considering other colleges, too, for admissions such as Wellingkar, ISBM and XIME. But, I chose ABBS because I found it to be the best in terms of return on investment and on the basis of courses they are providing.

While opting for this college, I had the dilemma that whether I should join this college or not, what if the decision doesn’t prove to be a correct one, and the second challenge was the distance from my home town as Bangalore is quite far from Ranchi.

The class timings are from 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After the classes, I go to gym for physican and mental fitness. Most of the time in college is spent in attending lectures and sometimes we even have guest lectures and workshops from the officials of a company which prove to be very exciting and knowledgeable.

As I am a finance student, I like to attend classes of Corporate Finance, Accounting For Managers and Accounting for Bankers. Except for this, I find the marketing and human resource sessions exciting.

Coming to extra-curricular activities, we have different clubs in our college from before itself and we also have the option to create our own clubs such as finance club, marketing club. We even have a ‘Campus to Community’ project in which we have to step out and do some activities which will be a help for others in any way.

We also have events like sports day, ethnic day, International and National Conferences which helps us to present ourselves better in front of people.

If given a chance, I would like to organise a fest in my college and would also like to organise an Inter College Sports Day at college.

As a person, I have experienced a lot of change in myself. Till my graduation, it was quite a leisure time as I didn’t have to do much of hard work for getting good grades. But here, I realised the real value of hard work and the feeling of achieving something on my own efforts. We even have overnight assignments that helps us to manage stress better and these are not the things which I have experienced before.

Coming to the opportunities in the future, I think there will be a lot of job options for me in the finance field and with the support from the college and with my hard work, I hope to make full use of the opportunities available.

I have decided to go ahead by completing my PGDM in Finance and to take some further certifications related to the stock market and plan on becoming a full-time trader and investor.
