The statement by the home ministry spokesperson came after a section of media houses reported that the ministry has given its nod to all the states to open schools.
“No such decision was taken by MHA. All Educational institutions are still prohibited to open, throughout the country(sic),” the spokesperson tweeted.
Since mid-March, all educational institutions around the country were shut down due to coronavirus outbreak, followed by a nationwide lockdown to contain the further spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the CBSE has said that it will be conducting the pending CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th Board exams in 15,000 exam centers to ensure social distancing is followed.
The nationwide lockdown was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 for 21 days in a bid to combat the pandemic. It was first extended until May 3 and again until May 17. The lockdown has now been extended till May 31.
The country witnessed a spike of 6,387 new coronavirus cases and 170 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country as on May 27, 2020 stands at 1,51,767 including 83,004 active cases. As many as 64,425 people have been cured or discharged. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of death in the country stands at 4,337. Maharashtra has emerged as the worst affected state with over 50,000 positive coronavirus patients.
