Classes for students of classes 1, 3, 5 and 7 would be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while the students of grade 2, 4, 6 and 8 would have classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Puducherry School Reopening: All schools both government and private in the union territory and its outlying regions of Karaikal and Yanam are decided to reopen on November 8 to conduct physical classes for students of grades 1 to 8, Puducherry Education Minister A Namassivayam announced on October 27, 2021.

A discussion was conducted by the Minister with officials of the Education Department regarding the declining cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Union Territory. Analyzing the same, it was decided to allow in-person classes in schools for grade one to eight students. The Union Territory has already commenced offline classes for 9 to 12 from September 1. Classes for students of classes 1, 3, 5 and 7 would be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while the students of grade 2, 4, 6 and 8 would have classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The reopening of the schools would take place following all necessary standard operating procedures and adherence to COVID protocols. Students would not be forced to attend offline classes as attendance is not compulsory. Written consent from parents would be required by students to attend classes. While schools in urban areas would function from 9 am to 1 pm, those in rural areas would function from 930 am to 1 pm. To curb the academic loss, schools would work for six days, i.e. Monday to Saturday.

The minister further informed that the midday meal school scheme would be held in abeyance and institutions would function for half a day only. Students would also get free transport services just like in the past. Noting that 95 percent of teachers have been vaccinated, he said the remaining staff would get the jabs in the next few days.
