Schools in Himachal Pradesh to reopen from November 2. Students who wish to attend the school must present the written consent of parents, the state government said.

The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to reopen the schools across the state on a regular basis for students of Classes 9 to 12 from November 2, 2020. The decision to reopen the schools was taken during a state cabinet meeting which was also attended by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. However, the government insisted that the consent of parents must be mandatory for students who wish to attend school, and attendance will not be compulsory.

In a  similar way, all colleges throughout the state will be permitted to reopen from November 2. However, the college administrations will have to ensure that all COVID-19 guidelines that are issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs are strictly followed by both staffs as well as students.

“Though a decision has been taken to reopen schools from November 2, schools will not be allowed to make it mandatory for students to attend classes. It should be left to the students to decide if they want to attend classes or not. Students can consult with their teachers and a decision can be taken based upon their academic needs for the current academic session,” Urban and Housing Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said.

It was also informed by the government officials that all undergraduate first and second-year students will have mass promotions. Nearly 60,000 students would most likely benefit from this decision. Meanwhile, final-year examinations for third-year undergraduate students have already been conducted.

Schools, colleges and other educational institutions across the state have been kept closed since mid-March owing to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
