Schools in Jammu and Kashmir to reopen on voluntary basis from September 21.

Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that all schools in the state will reopen on voluntary basis for Classes 9 to 12 from September 21 onwards. Schools in the state will open with 50 per cent attendance of staff and students. The attendance of students will be subject to written consent from their parents. All the SOPs released by the Ministry of Health will be strictly followed once the schools re-open after such a long gap.

“Up to Class VIII, only 50 perc ent staff will report every day while students of Class IX, X, XI, and XII can come on a voluntary basis with 50 percent attendance. It is up to the parents to decide whether they allow their children to attend the school. Online classes and other aspects of digital education will continue to function,” officials further added.

Meanwhile, Central Government has said that it is not mandatory to reopen the school from next week. As per the Unlock 4.0 guidelines, released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, schools were given the permission to partially open for teaching and non-teaching staff and for voluntary attendance of students of Classes 9 to 12. The Central government left the final decision on state to open or not open the schools and allow students, even voluntarily, to go to school to seek guidance.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that after holding discussions with officials of the Education Department, representatives of principals, Parent Teachers Associations, and others the government is not in favor of reopening the schools against the wishes of parents. He further added that online classes will continue until schools reopen in the state.

In mid-March, schools across the country were closed due to coronavirus outbreak in the country.
