The classroom learning and the industry visits broadened my perspective, says Abhishek (Alumni)
The first decade of the dotcom boom was quite exciting for the management aspirants. We were thrilled to see the changes that our economy was undergoing. Slowly we were transitioning from wired telephones to mobiles and the SMS services which made instant messaging an exciting mode of communication for the Indians. In that era, pursuing my PGDBM in Finance from a top notch institute in Delhi was a moment of pride for me and my family. After clearing the entrance exam, when I finally got admission in JIMS Rohini Sector-5, in the year 2005, my family and my siblings started harboring great hopes for my bright career.

Rendezvous with College Life
Unlike the graduation college, management education was different, but on a positive note. The classroom learning and the industry visits broadened my perspective towards a promising corporate life that I had planned for myself. While the theory part enhanced my learning and strengthened my conceptual knowledge, our nexus with the industry professionals in the form of seminars, symposiums and industry visits helped us gain real-time information about the market trends. The faculty at JIMS organized such events in every trimester to make sure that students received the best input before joining the corporate world. The finance faculty, for example, not only taught us about the concepts but also took case studies from the finance vertical to make learning effective.
Beyond Classroom – CLUBS/Annual Fests/Cultural Events
JIMS Rohini has always encouraged students to integrate classroom learning with the practical aspects of the real business world. Therefore, several clubs were organized and activities ranging from current affairs to symposia and lectures were conducted weekly to provide a platform to each student to develop their extra-curricular interests.
The best part about the clubs, annual fests and cultural activities was that all the events were planned and executed by the students, in close coordination with the faculty members. We were given the responsibility to handle and manage the events at large.

JIMS Internships and Placements
For a management aspirant, the crucial aspect of paying the hefty fee becomes rewarding when internship and final placements are taken care of well. JIMS Rohini extended 100% assistance in arranging for our internships via campus placements. I got my summer placement with one of the finance companies in a marketing profile. It helped me learn a lot about the financial tools and securities that are sold to customers to induce saving habits.
Even before the completion of the course, our final placements had begun in the 5th trimester. I vividly remember that while I had started applying for the company interviews, my confidence had gone for a jolt. I was quite nervous to sit for the interviews as I felt under pressure to secure the best placement package. Many of my batchmates were going through the same situation. Seeing this, the institute arranged personality development sessions for students. Trainers taught us the art of facing interviews with confidence and we were able to work out the situation in our favor. The CRMC (placement team) at JIMS was extremely helpful in helping us prepare for the interviews. My first campus placement was with Genpact as a Process Associate. This job gave me great learnings and I recall my days at JIMS with fondness because that was the foundation of my corporate dreams.

JIMS Alumni Member
I am proud to associate myself with JIMS and I continue to do so with their JIMS Alumni association. The institute has formed a well-knit circle of students that meet regularly to help the next generation of leaders evolve. We are continually engaged with the institute and help them widen their corporate network and deepen its roots in the industry. I believe it would be great if our mistakes can help someone understand how to take the leap better in the industry.

My Personal Career Trajectory
Currently I am serving one of the world’s finest banks, HSBC as an Assistant Vice President. I have been associated with this brand for 13 years and have been intricately managing their Accounting and control operations (Business Analysis Planning & Monitoring). Prior to HSBC, I was associated with Copal Partners with the designation of Senior analyst.
In all these years of my professional growth I have realized some facts and I would like to share a few. The first is that you must choose your MBA/PGDM institute carefully. I am proud of my decision to pursue my Master’s from JIMS because it forms the foundation of your career aspirations. Second, take your studies seriously because it might be your last chance to learn from a guru unless you plan to go for research (PhD) studies. Third, don’t give up at the end, because unless you get a good placement, your Master’s isn’t over!

With a rank of 6019 in IPU CET and 52% in Class 12, it is going to be tough getting admission in the BCA programme in JIMS (Jagannath International Management School), as the cut-off ranks are usually above the marks secured by most students according to demand and competition.
