To perform well students should be good in co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities, says Director Dr Lukose

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, VC, Dean & Director Dr Wilson Lukose at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Hotel and Tourism Management Studies talks at length about the features and yet initiatives taken that help them differentiate from other institutes offering similar programmes. He goes into detail discussing their unique programmes and their curriculum.

Q: What are the three things that your institute/college/university is doing that will enable it to differentiate itself from competition?

A: Key differentiating factors are:

  • Strong Alumni Support for Guest Lectures, Workshops, Training and Placements
  • Providing 100 % Training and Placements to our Students
  • Strong Alliance with the Hospitality Industry

Q: What are the top three initiatives undertaken by you that are helping your students become more industry ready?

A: Key initiatives taken to help students become industry-ready are:

  • Industry Endorsed Curriculum
  • Mandatory Internships in reputed Hospitality Organizations
  • Hands on Training, Workshops, Guest Lectures on Skill Development, Guest Lectures on Entrepreneurship Development

Q: What are the key attributes that a student should have in order to qualify for your institution and perform well?

A: Apart from Basic Eligibility criteria (Candidates Passed or Due to Pass Class 12 H.S.C. or Equivalent- Discipline: Arts, Commerce, Science), we look for eagerness to learn, good communication skills and their passion/zeal.

To perform well they should be good in co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities, Inter-Personal Skills, Team Work and Innovative thinking.

Q: Which programme/s would you say is/are your best? What is it that helps your institution differentiate itself for this programme?

A: Following I would say are our best programmes:

  1. BSc in Hospitality Studies affiliated to University of Mumbai
  2. BSc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration affiliated to Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University)

These are our top courses as it brings exposure to the knowledge of Hospitality and Tourism Industry.

Q: What are you doing to improve/drive better campus placements for your current students and alumni? What kind of jobs routinely come to campus? What would you say are the key recruitment trends for your college (observed over the past five years)?

A: Good Network of Recruiters, backed with a Humongous Alumni Network and formal understanding with the Big Brands of Hospitality ensures placement for our students. A well connected and dedicated Placement Cell assured 100% Placement and Internship for every batch of the above said courses.

The jobs are mostly in Hotels, Resorts, QSR’s, Amusement Parks, HR, Sales & Marketing, Retail, Cruise Liners, Hospitals, Banking, Tourism Sector, Finance Sector, Event Management, Airlines, etc
