The Governor further added that the universities, along with colleges, should hand over the degrees to the students soon after convocation in a timely manner.

Amid the ongoing pandemic situation, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who is also the chancellor of state universities, directed vice chancellors to ensure that students are not made to run for their degrees. During an online review meeting of two state universities, Lucknow University and Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University, the Governor stated that the degrees should be sent to students’ home by post by the universities. The Governor further added that the universities, along with colleges, should hand over the degrees to the students soon after convocation in a timely manner. In order to facilitate the order, she had earlier suggested universities to prepare a database of names, phone numbers and addresses of the students for sending degrees by post.

The Governor also directed the two Vice Chancellors to state criteria and detailed instructions in the advertisement for hiring faculty members. This, she stated, will ensure transparency in the appointment process. In order to apprise the newly elected village pradhans of the public welfare schemes, the Governor asked the universities to hold webinars and training sessions "Most of the women gram pradhans belong to self-help groups. Universities should make them aware of the malpractices in a society like dowry, discrimination of male and female child, so that they can motivate women in their villages to fight against such social evils," the Governor said. Nearly 33 per cent of the newly elected village heads are women. The Governor also asked universities to adopt children who have been orphaned after losing their parents to the COVID-19 pandemic.
