The Uttar Pradesh government on June 13 declared that the new academic session in universities and higher and technical education institutions across the state will commence in the second week of September. The officials conducted a meeting on Sunday along with the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. During the meeting, the CM said that all institutions should announce the results by August 31 so that the next session could start from the second week of September. The CM also stated that the examinations should be conducted for students enrolled in courses related to technical education.
Clarifying rumors regarding the cancellation of exams, secretary, technical education, Alok Kumar tweeted, “Government has decided to hold final year exams of all students under technical education department in 3rd week of July. Other than final year, exams will take place in the last week of July. It will be objective type and online (sic).” Government officials said the online examinations would serve a dual purpose. On the one hand, it would check the spread of COVID-19 cases, while on the other, it would prevent derailment of the academic session.
Commenting on the preparations being done by the authority to conduct exams, Secretary, Board of Technical Education, Rashmi Sonkar said preparations for online examinations for polytechnic students had already begun. “However, the syllabus is still incomplete. Examinations will be held once the syllabus is completed,” she said. Vice-chancellor of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Professor Vinay Kumar Pathak said, “Online examinations will help students who do not stay in UP. Since students have to appear online, they can do so from their homes.”
