Participation is more important than winning, says Rachel
Initially while choosing a stream in class 11, I knew that I wanted to study Business and Accountancy but was unsure between Commerce with or without Mathematics. Finally, I went with Commerce without Mathematics as I had no interest in Mathematics. I was always sure of pursuing a business management-related career option ahead. So soon after completing class 12 exams, I started exploring BBA colleges across Delhi NCR. Choosing the right undergraduate degree programme and then the right college are both challenging tasks in a student’s life that one has to go through. After evaluating multiple options I decided to go with JIMS - Jagannath Institute of Management Sciences, Vasant Kunj. There were contributing factors to this decision such as alumni reviews about the curriculum, faculty, placements and of course the goodwill of the institute for the last 28 years.
After deciding on the college to go for, the next big task was to prepare for the admission test or qualifying exam followed by a panel interview. JIMS conducts JET (JIMS Entrance Test) basis on which the admissions are offered to aspirants. The test is of two hours of duration and consists of 50 verbal ability questions, 50 quantitative ability questions and 25 general knowledge questions. Basis my score in JET and the performance in the Personal Interview round, I was offered admission at JIMS.
Coming to college life, a regular day is mostly about attending classes, enjoying canteen food and spending time with friends. We also have industrial visits as part of the curriculum. We visited Coca-Cola and Yakult plant as part of Industrial visits. Besides this, the institute regularly invites prominent industry experts to deliver guest lectures on current trends and practices followed at the industry. They share their life experiences too, which helps us to learn from their real-life experiences. There are regular workshops, seminars and other extracurricular activities. Though I have been an introvert all my life but the college life has helped me come out of my nutshell and experience various facets of life.
I am thoroughly enjoying my time in college and my teachers here are my biggest strength. They taught me teamwork, pushed me to take up new challenges and helped me build my self-confidence to go out and face the world.
