Mystory@Vavilla Saiteja Reddy: How I selected my course and college
Frankly, my father was just not interested to send me for management studies for my undergrad course. Basically, my family has a set thinking that boys should definitely go for engineering and girls should study medicine. But I don't like science subjects. I don't have any interest in Science at all. I love studying accounts and have interest in management subjects, which is my interest area. I’m good at scoring marks and completed my 10th with 8.8 GPA and 10+2 with 91%. I had a strong feeling that my future will be bright if I go for management. So I decided to be different and follow my passion.
I chose to pursue BBA from Gems B School, Bangalore. I selected this college to be able to gain practical knowledge through industrial exposure. I gathered that this college provides various opportunities to explore
one’s talent. I had visited many campuses and also met students. They informed me that while colleges make tall claims but very little gets done in reality. I wanted to join a B school where I could show my talent. Normally, students studying in ordinary degree colleges are not clear about industrial exposure, which is the benefit one gets studying in a good B School.
How I chose my college
To begin with, I didn't know about entrance exams. I started with checking out various college websites. I found Gems B School to be something special. I loved the campus. The college website mentioned that aspirants have to take an online admission test. Without any hesitation, I took the admission test and successfully I cleared the entrance. This test basically had general knowledge based questions which I didn't have to prepare for or take any coaching classes. The only reason I came from Hyderabad to Bangalore to join this B School is only to get actual industry exposure. I hope this B School is the best one to get exposure towards industry life. I had applied for the top B-Schools as well and I also got through a couple of colleges.
I was getting a seat in Amity-Hyderabad, Lovely Professional University, Vellore Institute of Technology, but I feel the environment there is totally different. The environment which we have is very attractive.
How I spent my college time
I attend all the classes. I love mathematics as well as accounts and I never miss these classes. The college faculty is excellent and classes are interesting. We have library, tennis courts, volleyball courts etc. After
classes, we spend some time there. The college will organise tournaments and encourages overall skill development in students. They will also send students for different fests. In fact, my friend and I got 2nd as well as 3rd positions in Best Manager rounds at one such event. My college conducts debates and group discussions. We celebrated Ethnic day in college to bring together different cultures and traditions of different states. There are different programs conducted by other organizations too viz. Radio Mirchi, Zoom TV etc. where we’ve got encouraging prizes which motivates us to do many things.
One of my friend who is studying in another college tells me that they don't conduct any of these programs. Then how can the students learn and show their inner talent? To be frank I don’t have much industry exposure and I used to wonder about what actually happens in the real corporate world, how do they make huge profits, etc. These are normal doubts which everyone has at this age and if these doubts are cleared in a college through practical exposure, it’s great for students. We don’t want to study sitting in the class and reading books all the time. If students get real industry exposure, they can better understand things and link real industry and theoretical knowledge.

My name is Saiteja. I'm from Hyderabad. I’m pursuing my BBA 4th semester at Gems B School, Bangalore. I'm good at scoring marks. My hobbies are playing cricket, reading books and chatting with friends. I don't want to work under someone for a longer period of time. I want to build my own reputation. I hope Gems BSchool provides me the industry exposure I’m here for. My only dream is to start up my own organization in such a way that it will be helpful to old aged people.
