CICSE Board has been asked by the Bombay High to come up with a plan to grade those Class 10 and Class 12 Board students who won't be physically appearing for the exam.
The Bombay High Court has asked Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to come up with its plan for alternative grading for students who will not be physically appearing for remaining ICSE (Class 10) Board Exams 2020 and ISC (Class 12) board exams 2020 due to coronavirus crisis. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice SS Shinde directed the ICSE board to present its plan for alternative grading latest by Monday i.e. June 22, 2020.

The bench was hearing a public interest litigation filed by a parent seeking directions to the authorities to cancel the ICSE 10th Exams 2020 and ISC 12th Exams 2020 amid the pandemic crisis.
On June 14, CISCE had informed the Court that it will be giving option to all its students, in India and abroad, to either take the exam in July or to get the final results based on their internal assessments and pre-board exams conducted by schools.
"However, I told the court that often, students are graded in a very stringent manner in their pre-board papers. Therefore, calculating final results based on pre-board marks will force more students to sit for these exams despite the potential health risk," advocate Tiwari said.
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country postponed a few papers of the ICSE 10th Board Exams 2020 and ISC 12th Board Exams 2020. According to the revised ICSE 2020 Date sheet released by the Board, CISCE decided to conduct the pending 10th board exam from July 2 to July 12. Approximately 2.8 lakh students are expected to sit for the pending ICSE Board Exams 2020. As per the revised ISC timetable 2020, the examinations are scheduled to begin from July 1 and conclude on July 14, 2020.
Advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, who was presenting the state government, told the court that the state has also opposed to conducting the pending exams, but it had decided to wait to check how many students choose to appear for them and then take a final call.
The ICSE board examinations were initially scheduled to be conducted between February 27 and March 30 this year, but the schedule was interrupted when the nationwide coronavirus-induced lockdown came into force.
If the state government decides to not conduct the exams, the board will accept the decision, senior advocate Darius Khambata, who appeared for the board said.
In the proposal, the CISCE also stated that “for the avoidance of doubt, for those subjects where examinations have already been conducted, results in those subjects will be declared based on the student’s performance in such examinations."
Meanwhile, as per some media reports the ICSE and ISC Board Exams after conducting the exam according to the ICSE 2020 Date sheet from July 2 to July 15, will release the ICSE 10th Results 2020 in the last week of July. On similar lines, the 12th board results i.e. ISC Results 2020 will be released.
