Coronavirus Scare: Andhra Pradesh government promotes class 6 to 9 without exams

The AP government directed the schools to promote students of class 6 to class 9 without exams.

Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus, the government of Andhra Pradesh announced that under the strict lockdown all-round the country it is not safe to conduct the annual examinations. Considering the health and safety of the students, the AP government directed the schools to promote students of class 6 to class 9 without exams. The promotion will be solely based on the student’s yearly performance.

The emergency of controlling the rapidly spreading deadly virus is rising.  In order to control the virus spread, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a strict lockdown for the next 21 days. People are advised to stay inside their homes and follow social distancing. Concerned regarding the safety and health of the students and staff members, the Andhra Pradesh government took this step.

According to the official notice, the AP government stated that It is decided to cancel the summative assessment- II examinations for the classes VI to IX, and declare the students as ‘ALL PASS’. The decision to promote students was taken during a meeting chaired by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with the Education Department. The State Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh presented the proposal for the same.

Due to the closure of the schools and mid-day meal scheme, the concerns over food security and nutrition of the students are rising as well. In this regard, the CM ordered to continue the scheme and ensure that the students get the same despite the closure of the schools. The CM directed the officials to ensure that students receive ration at their doorsteps until April 14. He also asked the officers to ensure the quality of the ration being delivered to the students.
