The Karnataka state education board, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) canceled annual examinations for classes 7 and 8. The decision is taken considering the health and safety of the students and staff members. The outbreak of coronavirus led to a crisis and emergency in India. In order to control the rapidly spreading contiguous COVID-19 virus, the center, as well as state governments, are taking all the necessary steps possible. Nationwide lockdown for until April 14 one of the precautionary that the government took to control the virus spread. Amid this situation of crisis, it is not possible for the education board to conduct annual examinations.

Conducting annual examinations would lead to large gatherings of students, teachers, and parents and can increase the rate of virus spread. As the government has asked the citizens to practice social distancing by staying inside homes, conducting examination amid lockdown is not possible. Considering this challenging situation, Karnataka Primary & Secondary Education Minister, Suresh Kumar stated that the board will not conduct any examinations for class 7 and class 8. All students enrolled under these classes will be promoted to higher classes with any examinations. However, the promotion of the students will be based on their yearly performance.

Earlier, the minister ordered the schools of the state that the admission process and collection of fees for 2020-21, including payment of fees by students continuing in the same school, shall be postponed until the next government order due to the COVID-19 lockdown. So far, the novel coronavirus positive cases in Karnataka have reached 110 claiming 3 live.
