COVID-19 impact: UP Board Exam 2020 evaluation work to begin only in green zones

The Uttar Pradesh Government on May 4, 2020, declared the postponement of the evaluation process for the UP board exams 2020 in the orange and red zone districts of the state.

The Uttar Pradesh Government on May 4, 2020, declared the postponement of the evaluation process for the UP board exams 2020 in the orange and red zone districts of the state. Earlier, the state government scheduled to begin the evaluation work of the UP board exam answer sheets from May 5. According to the reports, the evaluation work will proceed as planned for the 20 districts which are in the green zone.

According to the sources, the order regarding the commencement of the evaluation work amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus created chaos among the teachers. Government teachers belonging to the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh, a teachers’ association, declared boycott the evaluation work of UP Board 10^th and UP Board 12^th answer sheets citing safety concerns due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The teachers allegedly stated that the government ignored their concerns when it announced that evaluation for Class 10 and Class 12 board exam will commence on May 5.

 Later, announcing the commencement of the evaluation work in the green zones, Aradhna Shukla, principal secretary of the department of secondary education, in a letter addressed to the district authorities and the UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, stated, “the districts which are in the green zones as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s list on April 30 will continue with evaluation as per schedule.”

Ms, Shukla’s letter clearly states that the evaluation will be on hold for orange and red zones for now. The secretary said that the decision on the evaluation in these zones will be taken on a later date.

The districts that come under the green zone in Uttar Pardesh are Barabanki, Kheri, Hathras, Maharajganj, Shahjahanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Baliyan, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Devariya, Firozabad, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Kanpur (rural), Kushinagar, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Siddharthnagar, Sonbhadra and Amethi.

The ongoing controversy over the evaluation work of the UP board exam answer sheets states that students who appeared for the state board examination will have to wait a little longer for the UP Board 10th Result 2020 and UP Board 12th Result 2020.
