The West Bengal Board on April 15 decided to promote all the students studying in class 11 to the next standard without any examination. The declaration regarding the promotion of the students came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the nationwide lockdown until May 3 in order to contain the spread of the contagious COVID-19 virus.
According to the reports, the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, declared that all the students (both government and private schools) studying in class 11 will be promoted to the next class without any annual examination. In the midst of closed schools, suspended classes and canceled exams, the government is trying its best to continue the learning process among the students. However, conducting annual examinations is not feasible as it goes against the norms of social distancing as directed by the central government.
Earlier this month, The West Bengal government announced the promotion of all the students of class 1 to 8 to the next class in wake of the emerging situation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. According to the reports, the West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee stated that the School Education Department decided that there will no detention of students from class 1 to 8.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) asked all the WBBSE (Class 10) examiners to check the answer scripts at least twice, keep the marks into the marks-foils and prepare the answer scripts for submission. The State Board also stated that it may call for submission any time after the lockdown is uplifted. The Madhyamik results are expected to be declared in May.
