Odisha government has reduced the syllabus by 30 per cent as a one-time measure for the 2020-21 academic year.
Odisha Government has announced that it has decided to reduce the school syllabus for the students for the current academic year by 30 per cent in the light of coronavirus pandemic. School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash confirmed the news and said that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the closure of schools across the state for nearly five months which has caused a major loss to the time available for studies. The postponement of academic sessions in the current year is one of the reasons for the reduction in the syllabus.
The syllabus has been revised or rationalised by the Odisha government on the basis of the recommendation of three syllabus committees of SCERT, Board of Secondary Education and CHSE. While rationalising the syllabus, special attention has been paid to ensure that important subjects that are state-specific are not omitted from the syllabus.
“The decision to rationalise the syllabus has been taken on the recommendation of three syllabus committees of SCERT, Board of Secondary Education and CHSE. The State-specific important subjects which students need to know have not been omitted from the syllabus,” informed State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash.
“Syllabus reduced to 30 per cent from the academic calendar of Odisha as informed by Shri Samir Ranjan Dash, Hon'ble Minister, School and Mass Education, Odisha,” the Odisha School Education Department had tweeted.
Both BSE Odisha and CHSE Odisha are expected to publish the curtailed school syllabus for the Schools based in Odisha on their website soon. The syllabus will also be made available by the education department on scertodisha.nic.in.
The district education officers and school principals have also been informed to hold classes, be it online or offline, as the reduced syllabus.
