The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has released the revised 131-page subject wise UP Board Syllabus, which has been reduced by 30 per cent for the year 2020-21. UP Board Secretary Divyakant Shukla released the syllabus on the official website on late Monday night. The syllabus has been reduced for classes 9 to 12, keeping in mind the current coronavirus situation because of which schools have been kept closed since mid-March. The UP Government has reduced the syllabus on the basis of the number of working days of school. Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cut down 30 per cent of the syllabus as one time measure for the year 2020-21 for classes 9 to 12 considering the reduction in classroom teaching time due to coronavirus outbreak that leads to the closure of schools.
The syllabus reduced will also affect the UP Board Exams 2021. However the Board has confirmed that no question will be asked in the UP 10th and UP 12th exams to be conducted in 2021 from the deducted syllabus. It applies to Class 9 and 11 too. The UP Board syllabus for classes 6 to intermediate has also been reduced by 30%. Students can check the syllabus for 2020-21 on the official website of the Board i.e.upmsp.edu.in.

UP Board Exams 2021: What has been removed from the UP Board 10th syllabus?
Mathematics
Students this year will not be covering chapters like circle, probability, some trigonometry applications, parallel series and polynomials.
Class 10 English students will not be studying the lessons -- The Nation Builders, Torch Bearers, Our Indian Music, My Greatest Olympic Prize.
Hindi
Three chapters have been cut out of the total seven chapters. This includes ‘Irsha Tu Na Gayi Mere Man Se’ by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, ‘Kya Likhoo’ by Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi and ‘Pani Mein Chanda Aur Chand Par Aadmi’ by Jaiprakash Bharti have been kept out. In Hindi petry's section, 13 chapters have been omitted completely like ‘Bharat Mata Ka Mandir Hai Ye’ by Maithili Sharan Gupt, ‘Nadi’ by Kedarnath Singh and ‘Yuva Jungle’ by Ashok Vajpeyi.
English
‘A Torchbearer’ by Edith Wharton and ‘Our Indian Music’ by R Srinivasan while in poetry works like ‘The Nation Builders’ by Ralph Waldo Emerson and from supplementary reader chapters like ‘My Greatest Olympic Prize’, a short story describing Jesse Owens’ experience at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin have been kept out. In Science, topics like ‘Metals and non-Metals’, ‘Periodic classification of elements’, ‘Effect of current’, ‘Magnetic effects of current’ and ‘Natural Resources’ have been omitted while in Mathematics ‘Trigonometric identities’, ‘Sequences and series’ etc as well as chapters like ‘The age of Industrialisation’, ‘ Political Parties’, ‘Currency and credit’ in social science have been kept out.
Civics
The syllabus that has been scrapped includes content on democracy, caste, religion and sexual issues.
Social Science
The syllabus that has been omitted includes information about major national parties and regional parties of India have been removed.
Science
Syllabus on properties of metals and nonmetals, early attempts to classify elements into the periodic table, electromagnetic effects, electrical effects, natural resources and our environment have been removed.
UP Board Exams 2021: What has been removed from the UP Board 12th syllabus?
History
chapters including ‘Colonialism’ and ‘Understanding partition’ while in civics lessons like ‘US Hegemony’, ‘Security in the contemporary world’ and ‘Politics in Independent India’ etc have been kept out or this year. Similarly, the chapter on ‘Globalisation and social changes’ in sociology has also been omitted.
Hindi
The condemnation of satirist Harishankar Parsai has been omitted.
Civics
Certain portions on political party dominance in independent India and the challenges of the Congress system have been removed.
History
The history syllabus will not cover the history and nationality, sectarianism and division of 1040 in ‘division based on physical sources’.
In Sociology, public relations media and communication subjects have also been removed from the ‘dimension of globalization’.
UP Board Syllabus 2020: How the Syllabus will be covered?
UP Board syllabus will be covered in three parts. Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma had informed earlier that the first part of the syllabus will be taught through class-wise, chapter-wise and topic-wise online videos which will be aired on Swayaprabha channel and UP Doordarshan. For the second part of the syllabus, students have to study themselves, while the third part will be covered through project work. The Deputy CM had also said that experts have been asked to come up with a proper academic calendar.
"Standard operating procedures (SOP)” would be issued to schools, districts and divisions apart from an overall statewide SOP, for the purpose of studies, evaluation and monitoring.
The evaluation would be conducted every fortnight, month and annually. A question bank will be reportedly prepared by experts and uploaded on the official UP Board websites so students can check the question pattern," the Deputy CM had said.
