Mystory@James John Alotkar: How I chose my course and college
After completing my 10th and 12th from at Vincent’s Jr college, I had a dream of Joining Merchant Navy, but it did not work out. After clearing its exam I failed in physical round as my eyes were weak since childhood. Though I was a little frustrated, I decided to do BBA. After completing my BBA I decided to chase my dream once again. I appeared for Merchant Navy exam. By this time the regulation regarding eye sight had changed. Lasik Laser operated candidates were now allowed in Merchant Navy. But unfortunately after getting admitted into South Shield, UK for Merchant Navy, doctors revealed to me there was no hope of successful treatment.
Again I faced the same problem but decided to do PGDIB as I did not want to waste my year. I completed PGDIB from BMCC in First class. But again I faced the question--“WHAT NOW?” So after some research, I decided to pursue my MBA. Factors that I considered before choosing Sinhgad Institutes was my budget, college infrastructure, library and the most importantly campus placements. Sinhgad was perfect in comparison with other alternatives I had. Sinhgad’s library is accessible 24*7 and on an average, 300-400 companies participate in the campus placement process offering attractive packages. Apart from this, the campus is huge with all the facilities. At the institute’s music festival called Sinhgad Karandak, national and international artist performs.
How I cracked college admission
After all the ups and downs in my life I became sure of pursuing a corporate career. I was so sure about securing a seat at Sinhgad that I did not try in any other college. The entrance exam took was MAH-CET. I did not join any coaching centre preparations and prepare by myself on the basis of the entrance exam syllabus topics – English, Quant, Quantitative Logic and Arithmetic Logic. I also took help from my BBA batch-mates, who are now my seniors at Sinhgad.
What I learnt from my college years
My college timings are from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. But like every student, I bunk too! The few important lectures that I attended in first semester were Marketing and Law. In second semester I like attending lectures of Decision Science and Operations & Supply Chain Management.
Activities that I take part in are Cricket and Football and other management tournaments hosted by Sinhgad Student Council. I also like to take part in events like Spectrum and Karandak.
The college has changed me a little. I have experienced and learned about diversity of our country, as most of the students are from different parts of Maharashtra and India. There are also few international students here. I got to learn a lot and share a lot.
After hectic classes, if I have energy left in me, I spend some time in the six-floor tall ocean of wisdom - the college library.” At Sinhgad, I also got the opportunity to become a part of the Entrepreneur Cell.
If I get a chance I would like to search for creative minds and help them start their own business. I thank Sinhgad for this experience and Shiksha for allowing me to share my thoughts with the world.
