Mystory@Kanika Singh

When I was in Class 7, I once saw my cousin reading accountancy books and solving accountancy problems. I don’t know how, but interest but a sudden interest developed in me for accountancy and I decided to take up Commerce in Class 11. As I was always a bright student everybody wanted me to opt for Science but I went against everybody and choose Commerce. My father completely supported me in my decision. After Class 12, my family suggested I should go for CA but I wanted to do MBA. However, I joined CA course but I did not find it interesting so left it in the middle; even before attempting IPCC. As I was doing my Graduation along with CA, through distance learning from Delhi University I completed that.

After completing Graduation, I decided to pursue my interest so I took admission in PGDM course of GL Bajaj Institute of Management and Research and began a fresh journey.

GLBIMR’s programme structure, goodwill, atmosphere, infrastructure and friendly staff attracted me towards it. After joining it, I started to love everything about it.

The best moment for me at GLBIMR was when I topped PGDM in Trimester 1. The second best moment was when I received Silver Medal in Bombay Stock Exchange Certification.

GLBIMR not only helped me in reviving my confidence, enthusiasm and career in the right path but it also helped me in grooming my personality, enhancing my communication skills and building confidence for public speaking. It also gave numerous opportunities to showcase and brush up my skills.

How I cracked college admission

I started taking coaching classes for Management Aptitude test (MAT) from T.I.M.E. I took classes for three months. Then I appeared for MAT exam in the month of February 2016 and scored 80 percentile. I got a call from almost every good college on MAT list. I shortlisted some good colleges of my choice like IILM, Amity, JIMS, NDIMS and GLBIMR. I visited them all and amongst all of them I found GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research, Greater Noida to be the best considering its fee structure, location, placement records, infrastructure, facilities, course structure, goodwill and distance from my home.

Then I filled up the admission form. I got a call from the college for GD/PI rounds, which I qualified and finally got admission there.  After that I had a campus visit. I was extremely excited by the fact that I will have a regular college life in such a beautiful campus.

What I gained from my college experience

Earlier I was an introvert but now I’ve totally transformed into the opposite of it.

My day starts at 9:30 with regular classes in college. At lunch time I chill out with my friends in the cafeteria.

I like to attend all the classes and never get bored of them because our faculty members teach in a very interesting manner. The best thing I like about the teaching pedagogy of my college is that internal evaluation is done on the basis of case study analysis, group discussions and presentations because of which we are able to polish our communication and public speaking skills and are able to know that where we stand in the corporate world.

I also like to attend the personality development programmes organized in our college as they are really interesting and full of learnings. I am an active member of compering team of our college and I do compering frequently. I am also an active member of CR/PGP committee of the college whose job is to contribute in the smooth functioning of PGDM programme and to bridge the gap between management and students.

I also like to attend certification workshops as they enhance my capabilities and CV.

If given a chance, I would like to go for a foreign industrial tour through my college so that I get to know more about the corporate world and gain more insights of it. It will definitely be a grand opportunity for me.

My college experience has changed me a lot. I’ve become more mature. My problem solving ability and time management ability have also improved a lot. Earlier I was an introvert but now I’ve totally transformed into the opposite of it. I’ve become extrovert and an initiator.

I had stage fear all through my school and graduation time but now it has diminished to a great extent. No matter how much I thank my college GLBIMR, it will always be less.
