Q:   How effective is the placement cell for B.Sc. courses at SD College Chandigarh?

    A:
    {Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

    Placement Cell Effectiveness

    * The placement cell at SD College Chandigarh is not very effective for B.Sc. courses, according to various students' reviews.
    * Only a few companies visit the campus, mostly offering low-paying jobs or internships in e-commerce companies.
    * Most students pursuing B.Sc. degrees choose to focus on Masters' programs or compete in exams instead of opting for placements.
    * According to one student, only 2% to 3% of B.Sc. students get placed, and the average salary package is around INR16,000.
    * Another student mentioned that the placement cell is not very proactive, and most students end up seeking placements on their own.

Overall, the placement cell seems to be more geared towards Commerce students (BBA, B.Com) rather than Science students, and even then, the options are limited and often involve low-paying jobs or internships.

Good college to study in Chandigarh.
Placements: Placements are average for science and art students but they are way better for the commerce department including BCA BBA and BCom courses. Many big companies like Deloitte and Axis Bank came to college for internships and placements. Placements for nonmedical are also good.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is average. The classrooms are not so good as benches are okay, but no smart classes are there, only projectors and fans are there which is okay. Study is very good here like proper syllabus completion and mid-semester tests are taken properly.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and experienced. Exams are a bit easy, but marking is very hard, so it is advisable to study properly and maintain their attendance otherwise a fine is charged. Overall services are very good, but exposure is not so much so that it.
Other: Overall best college in Chandigarh.

The college is the best as compared to other colleges.
Placements: About 88% of students are placed in the B.Sc. course. The average package offered is 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies are IBM, Infosys, Wipro, and Tata Soft Solutions. About 90% of students get internships from companies like IBM, Wipro, and Infosys. The college provides the best placement opportunities.
Infrastructure: College has the best teaching staff, a huge campus, equipped with hi-tech science labs containing the best equipment. The IT department is fully air-conditioned. The college has a large library, and a separate study area for students to study. The classrooms are spacious enough.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful to students, they are very qualified, and teachers give their full potential to support students. College has the best teaching staff, which makes students industry-ready. They prepare students to handle any task easily. Exams are easy to pass.

It's all about campus, course, curriculum.
Placements: There is no placement in the college for biotechnology students. If we want, then we have to apply off-campus. But if we want to apply off-campus, we can start with internships at research institutions so that we have more experience in our CVs before joining a job.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure needs to be improved. There is no Wi-Fi for college students. ACs should be there in the classroom, as it gets really hot in the summer. I didn't opt for a hostel, but as far as I know, hostel rooms and infrastructure are good enough, and it is close to the college as well.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and have Ph.D. degrees in specific fields. Teaching quality is also good. The curriculum is good. You will learn about immunology, microbiology, genetic engineering, etc. There are, in total, six semesters and six final exams you have to take.
Other: I opted for a B.Sc. in biotechnology, and the good thing is that it is practical. I think the syllabus needs to be improved, and practical knowledge should be increased. The college organizes festivals and events as well.

Everything is good, well-maintained, and disciplined.
Placements: Placement percentage of SD College is above 80%. The average package is 9 Lacs, the minimum is 5 Lacs, and the highest package is 20 Lacs. The college has a NAAC A+ grade accredited by Bangalore and has been recognized among all colleges for the past few years. It is also selected under the first program by New Delhi.
Infrastructure: This college has good infrastructure facilities, including a medical room, an indoor game auditorium, a gymnasium, and an educational stationery shop. The canteen food is very good and easily affordable. There is laundry and a gym in the hostel, and there is AC in the rooms.
Faculty: The quality of teaching is very good at this college. The management of academics can sometimes be a bit loose in deciding the semester dates and providing important information regarding our classes. However, teachers are helpful and supportive. They provide us with an updated curriculum that includes all the developmental fields.
Other: I opted for science in my school, which is why I chose the B.Sc. course. I am also interested in this field, and fortunately, I got admission to SD College, which is a renowned and one of the best colleges in Chandigarh.

Absolutely satisfied with everything, the college life, and the academics.
Placements: According to college, there are almost 100% placements, but as far as I know, it's around 50-60% as most of them are not serious about the studies. As for the highest package, it's around 12 LPA, and the minimum and average are around 3 LPA. There are several big companies that hire students for jobs as well as for internships. About the roles offered in my course, I am in B.Sc. computer science, so there are several roles in the coding field that I can acquire.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is pretty good, like it's not small and pretty good. It's very well maintained and clean, and there's no hygienic environment anywhere on the campus. The classes are cleaned daily; they are well maintained; not even a single bench or sitting table is broken or dirty. All the labs, like computer and IT labs, as well as chemistry and biology labs, have proper facilities and AC too. There's free Wi-Fi available all over the college campus. The hostel is also well maintained and managed, like no outsider can just go in the hostel; they have AC facilities available in the hostel rooms, and the food is good. You might have heard that it's usually bad, but I have tried, and it's actually quite good, and there are proper medical facilities and sports indoors and outdoors that the hostel students have access to.
Faculty: The teachers and staff are great; they are very well educated; a lot of them have done Ph.D.s, and they have lots of experience. They have taught a lot of students over the past years and are quite helpful, like they clear your every doubt even if they have to repeat that thing 3 or more times. The curriculum is good; I mean, it is relevant to the course I have taken and teaches us according to industry standards. The exams come from Punjab University, and the level of difficulty in the exams is moderate; they aren't very tough, but the percentage of students who pass is mid, as some students sack off during the classes, which results in their failure.
Other: I chose the given course because I had interest in both fields like math and computers, and this course provides me the opportunity to decide what's best for me. I chose this specific college case because this is the best college in this area in both things, whether it is about academics or about college life. The students and the environment are so good, I think taking admission in this college was totally worth it for me.

    Satisfactory College Life
Placements: Placement percentage is very low as far as I know, so it's better to not opt for this particular college if your main concern is placement. You would have to look for off-campus placements. However, you will get the opportunity to get placed in the fifth semester.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of the college is great in my opinion. Compared to other Panjab-affiliated colleges, SD College stands out in this area. Labs are well maintained and well-equipped, and if you still have some issues, you can report them to the authorities, and they will be taken care of. As for the canteen, it lacks variety and has limited sitting arrangements. It's comparatively smaller than other college canteens.
Faculty: Teachers and other staff are quite helpful. They take your problems seriously if you have any. Their teaching skills are great, provided you attend lectures regularly, as they are strict about attendance. Semester exams are on the easier side. Just study from past year questions, and you're good to go.
