Q:   Can I get admission to Government Law College, Churchgate for LLB with 60% in Class 12th?

    A:

No, getting admission into Government Law College, Churchgate's LLB programme with just 60% marks in Class 12th is not possible as the admission criteria is highly competitive .

Here are few key details regarding admission to  this Law College :-

    • Eligibility for LLB at GLC Churchgate requires a candidate to have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in graduation degree (for 3-year LLB).

    • For 5-year integrated LLB, minimum 60% scores in 10+2 examinations is required.

    • However, meeting only the basic eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission at GLC Churchgate.

    • Admission is solely based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) merit rank and percentile score obtained by a candidate.

    • The cutoff percentile for getting into GLC Churchgate is generally 95+ percentile in CLAT with top rank holders competing for limited seats.

    • Thus, candidates with just 60% marks in 10+2 have an extremely slim chance as excelling in CLAT exam is vital.

In summary, high scores in qualifying examinations alone does not make one eligible or ensure LLB admission at the prestigious Government Law College, Churchgate institute. A CLAT percentile of at least 95 and above is essential with good ranking.

Q:   Is LLB at Government Law College, Churchgate better than University of Mumbai [MU]?

    A:

The question of whether pursuing an LLB at Government Law College, Churchgate, is better than the University of Mumbai depends on different-different factors. Here are some factors considerations:-

    1. Government Law College, Churchgate, is one of the oldest and most prestigious law colleges in India. It has a strong reputation in the field of legal education. However, the University of Mumbai also has a good reputation, and the quality of education can vary by department and faculty within the university.

Q:   Can students with a minimum cutoff for LLB get a seat at Government Law College, Churchgate?

    A:

Yes, students with a minimum cutoff for LLB get a seat at Government Law College, Churchgate.

Getting admission into Government Law College (GLC), Churchgate's prestigious LLB programme only with the minimum cutoff marks is quite difficult and competitive due to the high demand .

However, there is a chance depending on several factors :-

    • Seats Available - GLC Churchgate has only 60 seats in the LLB program. The minimum cutoff is generally set very high at around 95+ percentile in CLAT exam .

    • General vs Reserved -  If you belong to reserved categories like SC/ST, the minimum cutoff is relatively lower based on allotted quota.

    • Performance in Interview - Those who meet just the cutoff are called for an interview. Good performance here can help chances.

    • Chance in Further Rounds -  Applicants below but near the cutoff stand better chances in the second to fourth admission rounds if seats are still vacant.

    • Upgradation Chance - Students with lower scores sometimes initially get other less popular law colleges in Mumbai. In the upgradation rounds, they might get GLC based on merit.

So while difficult, students meeting just the cutoff criteria of GLC Churchgate do stand a little  chance of admission, primarily through  the reserved categories or if they excel in the interview round.

    Good placement opportunities.
Placements: The college has good placement opportunities, but there is a need for more support in securing internships. While top companies recruit, students often struggle to find internships on their own. The college should provide better guidance and resources for internships, such as workshops, networking events, and partnerships with companies. Internships are essential for building practical skills, and more assistance in this area would greatly improve career readiness and job opportunities after graduation.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are fully air-conditioned and equipped with smart classrooms. The infrastructure is well-maintained. Our campus has five canteens in total, with one main canteen and four stalls around the campus. The sports facilities are decent and include a girls' common room and an indoor badminton court. The library is also well-equipped with a wide variety of books, providing a peaceful environment to study.
Faculty: Our department has well-qualified teachers who are always willing to help students eager to learn. The course offered to us is up to date and relevant. The semester exams can be a bit difficult, but if you study regularly, you can easily cover the syllabus and score good marks.

Dissatisfied as the college had a good reputation, but didn't meet my expectation.
Placements: In the batch 2018, only 5% of the students got placed by the college placement drive. I don't know about the senior batch. The highest salary package is 16 LPA, and I don't know about the lowest. All the top-tier firms, in-house counsels and advocates visit the campus. The roles offered are associates. In the internship, only 20% of the students got from the college. The highest stipend is Rs. 15,000 per month, the lowest is none, and the average is Rs. 5,000 per month. There is a placement cell. It is good for taking an internship.
Infrastructure: There are 38 classrooms, library, moot courtroom, electronic research room, auditorium, canteen, and Wi-Fi facility on the campus. The quality of rooms is average. The quality of food in the canteen is decent. The hostel rooms provided by the college are decent with 2/3/4 sharing. The infrastructure on the campus is poor. There is no playground. There is no one classroom for seminars.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, but unable to depart knowledge to the students. The mode of teaching is conventional, and it is uninteresting. They are unable to deliver lecture properly. The student to faculty ratio is 80:1. Internships are allowed throughout the academic year. The course curriculum is useful.
Other: The student-run committees do a lot of activities. Sports, moot courts, magazine, law review, legal aid, social and cultural committees, seminars and conferences, guest lectures, and study tours are there on the campus. The scholarships and awards are given for academic excellence and co-curricular performances.

Good, renowned, aged college for law.
Placements: Placement was really good in the best law firms. My seniors got great campus placement, even for internships in the best firm. With great career opportunity, the highest salary offered was 15-20 lacs annually, and the lowest was 1-2 lac annually. For internship, students were offered a role like drafting etc. A stipend like 3000 - 7000 was offered. All big law firms visit the college for recruitment.
Infrastructure: There is moot court inside. It is a wifi enabled campus, with a beautiful garden and playroom both for men and women. There's a canteen with healthy and tasty food, and at an affordable price. There is a huge library of 2 floors, with wifi and a peaceful environment. There are huge hostels for men and women at just 2 min of walking distance. Seminar classroom with ac is available for special lectures.
Faculty: The faculty is really helpful with great teaching skills. There are a few renowned lawyers who came to hold lectures. The regular faculty is also well qualified and knowledgeable in their profession, so they can convey well to their students. They are always welcoming students' doubt and queries.

Great industry exposure at Government Law College.
Placements: The placements at Government Law College are good. About 20 lakh is the highest whereas 8 lakh to 10 lakhs is the average. The companies that regularly visit the campus are Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB and Ernst and Young. The internships are not offered on campus and students need to work on it themselves.
Infrastructure: Like all other government universities in the nation, GLC has a vintage building. The classrooms are enormous with wide wooden seats and it also has an astonishing library supplied with books that you won't discover anyplace else and very much kept up disputable courts, which are some of the components to highlight.
Faculty: The faculty is well experienced and wise. Also, many judges and solicitors keep visiting the campus, especially in the final year, hence it does provide a lot of industry exposure. It lives up to the expectation and it's reputation. The teacher to student ratio is 1:60
